Which of these movies with new GF?

Thought we would do a movie or two at my condo.  She is mid 40s, speaks English a little bit.  Here are some movie candidates from my thumb drive:

Jaws

The Birds

Magnum Force

Psycho

Brokedown Palace

Birds is a bit drawn out, but has beautiful scenery...Jaws might be a bit more gripping, being Thai, she would probably like Magnum Force and Eastwood.  Psycho might be hard to follow till the end, and Brokedown Palace takes place here, but is banned...don't know how she would react to that.

Any comments, clues, or suggestions?  Which would you choose for movie night with a fairly new GF?

Well, there's always Mr Bean - no lost in translation there.....

Go for something lightly comical with maybe a pinch of romance......

You could try out 50 Shades of Gray.....

Anything too psycho is not going to be easily understood or translatable...Or possibly even appreciated.....

Keep it on the light side with something she might relate to without the language getting in the way.....Keep something in reserve in case she doesn't like the first choice....

Make some wine coolers for sipping.....

Guessing you don't know where her tastes lie.....

That's not what i'd do.

and what is it you would do?  It will be after dark on a Sunday...and she isn't really a night owl.  I cant download any new movies..do have great youtube and also a free netflix trial, which has been disappointing.

She did say she liked scary movies.

Out of your list I've only heard about Jaws and Psycho. I'd say none of the above movies. If you want a scary bloody horror movie go with Saw series, I think there's 8 of them. If you want a bit of action movies then go for The Terminator or Die Hard film series. Mr. Bean tv series or Seinfeld if you want some comedy.

Its pretty easy to find Thai subs for western movies nowadays, and Thai movies with English subs.

In the absence of Thai subs its visual or action movies, anything that you can follow with the sound off. Also Thais love horror movies, anything with a ghost in it, also easy to follow as visual with not so much dialogue.

There are some great Thai movies around, Romantic comedies like ATM error, Bangkok traffic love story, I Fine..Thank You..Love You. Action drama like the Ong Bak series, A prayer before dawn, The last executioner. GF will like because its in Thai and it gives you an insight into the Thai sense of humour and the stories they like etc.

Nothing Hill... good romantic comedy, bit dated but still ok, can prolly find on YIFY torrent which also has a sister site for subtitles which can be added to movie when using VLAN media player...... Carry on Camping or Carry on Screaming could be a good laugh too

Thanks for the Thai movie recommendations. Do you know of a good torrent site to download these and other Thai movies.

Find a comedy with a midget and dark-skinned people.

Even better if it has bells and whistles at the 'funny' moments so she knows when to laugh.

ha, you are always on the money. I used to just put on jackass (the really funny one, second I think).  took me a few years to figure out that it is counter productive for everyone actually bringing them home. I doubt a thai girl would be interested in an English movie. she would be happier if you took her shopping. let us know how you get on, I suspect she will spend the whole time on her phone so it probably wont make any difference what movie you show.

I would suggest none of the listed films.

Thais loves comedy, preferably slapstick like mr. Bean, and romance.

A scary ghost-movie might sometimes also work – ghost appears in one-or-other-variety in something like 50% of Thai movies – but you should ask first, and a Thai-ghost-story might be preferred; however you might not fancy it...????
