Recognition as being the legitimate father

To cut a long story short, my partner of 10 years and I have a young child together. I'm on the birth certificate as being the father, but, as she and I aren't married, I'm not recognized as being his legitimate father.

I want to get this sorted out in the coming weeks and be recognized as being his dad. After having called the family court we've gotten most of the paperwork we need, however, according to them [the people at the family court], I need a "document" from a lawyer. This is a very vague description of the final, missing paperwork I need in order to wrap this up.

Does anybody here have similar experience and can tell me what this "document" is? Unfortunately, my better half doesn't know what it is (in English).

Also, any suggestions as to a lawyer in Korat City who can help me with this last document?

Much appreciate any advice or suggestions.

mis-read OP, kid under 7 needs court, or marry mom.

(read it as 10 year old kid)

Yes, we're taking the court option.

I think I've figured it out. If I understand her correctly, I just need a lawyer to petition the court to recognize/declare me as the legal father.
