Thai convenience shops sell computers

BANGKOK: -- A chain of convenience stores in Thailand plans to start selling inexpensive desktop computers next month, the Bangkok Post said Saturday.

As of June, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology will sell low-cost computers at 7-Eleven and True Shop stores throughout the country, The Post reported.

Consumers initially had to trade in an old PC to purchase a new model with 2.4GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor for 13,900 baht or 17,290 baht (about $340 and $430), depending on software.

The trade-in deal was not popular, however, and only about 10,000 PCs have been sold since the project kicked off March 12.

The ICT said it hopes to move 100,000 PCs before the end of the project on June 15.

The older PCs will be donated to 4,500 schools.

My g/f already wants a PC - as soon as she sees them in 7/11 at THIS price, what can I do? Oh well, only 14k. What about warranty? (no, really, I'm not joking).
