Hot : NACC finds Prawit innocent in relation to luxury watches

The national anti-graft commission on Thursday ruled in favour of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, saying he was not guilty of falsely reporting or concealing his assets.

National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC)'s secretary general Worawit Sukboon said the collection of luxury watches did indeed belong to a billionaire friend.

Prawit inherited the diamond ring from his parents after he had already declared the asset. Hence he was not guilty of concealing his assets.

This ruling has finally brought to an end one of the most talked about scandals this year.

The controversy erupted late last year when Prawit showed up at a Cabinet meeting sporting a Richard Mille designer wristwatch said to be worth nearly Bt3 million.

Observers immediately began questioning how Prawit could afford such an expensive watch with his income as a retired general.

It was later discovered that he had not declared the item to the NACC when he became a Cabinet member.

Intrigued by this, netizens dug up old photographs that indicated the general possessed numerous expensive watches. At a rough count, he had at least 22 luxury wristwatches, with their combined worth estimated at more than Bt20 million.

Prawit was also pictured wearing a diamond ring, which again was believed to not have been included in his asset declaration.

The general said the ring belonged to his parents, while the watches were lent to him by a longtime collector friend. Prawit has said this friend is no longer alive.

Public scrutiny intensified because Prawit is part of the coup-installed regime that had pledged to combat corruption.

  • What a relief, so glad to learn that he really is an honest man.   ????   Never doubted him for one minute.

  • More evidence, if any were needed, that Thai Justice is an oxymoron up there with Army Intelligence and RTP's 'Serve and Protect'.

  • Can only hope that once this "government" meets its doom, these people, including Nacc, are all locked up, treasonous mob of so and sos.

<deleted> joke,

End of story, not his proposed "end of corruption" !

What a surprise. Please tell us more about this unexpected result.

Said no-one, ever.

The NACC think by pulling this outrageous BS stunt that they've pacified the issue, I think that WHEN this whole business is actually proved to be a cover up (that no rational person could argue) that some serious repurcussions will ensue.

Eradication of corruption efforts under the NACC from here on in (under any circumstances / on any sides) will have absolutely no merit whatsoever. They've completely shattered whatever reputation they might have had after this. It's just so pathetic and wrong. Utterly shameful

  • Popular Post

Any wonder why they are a laughing stock after coming back with that .. Not that we are surprised really ...

Oh, well.

These things happen.

Cue page upon page of wailing and beating of chests from Thaigeezers having apoplexy.

Its not as this 'verdict was unexpected. In the big scheme of things it hardly affects the price of fish (Corrupt) Life goes on.

Ah yes, but only in others not in themselves. Glad we've cleared up that little misunderstanding.

In their case these little windfalls are just counted as perks of the job.

Personification of outright rank hypocrisy ..

Well, that was ALWAYS going to happen, so not sure why everyone is so surprised and shocked, though rightfully outraged. I would have been gobsmacked though if they had found anything otherwise.

Sorry about that, but I was just a little unbelieving there for a moment.

Ever wonder why there is no outstanding Thai on the world stage ? Because there is not a single bone of integrity in their bodies. I wonder if there will come a day when an upright and honest thai politician rise above this quagmire political landscape ? A sad day indeed.

The NACC is only there to protect idiots like Prawit from themselves. The NACC makes sure when they behave like fools like Prawit does, the NACC are always there to protect them.

This is just as most of us here predicted months back. But the sheer in-your-face arrogance and chutzpah of the whole thing beggars belief: a 'regime' that grabbed power to 'end corruption' pulls this stunt. This is the outcome of (allegedly) months of arduous, painstaking investigation: the man in question is declared completely innocent and blameless, with not a spot on his character. No detailed report needed or published. No probing questions allowed from journalists.

Case closed.

In some countries and cultures, with a backbone and guts, however, this would be 'case opened' - this would be the spark that ignited the whole powder-keg of furious, nation-wide resistance. But not with the Thais.

'Mai ben rai. Oh look - there comes a man from the Government - come on, graap, graap, grovel, grovel - that's it - show that you are a good Thai - go on, bow down lower and lower, and raise your clasped hands higher and higher above your head to the honourable gentleman - he is a "puu-yai", after all -  a grown-up - not a child like us .....'

Pathetic - right across the board, from top to bottom, left to right, diagonal, and every which-way. Pathetic. What a nation!

No it hasn't. Not by a long way. Literally nobody believes his cock and bull story, so it is only over as far as the miscreant and his pals who facilitated this verdict are concerned.

In other thread half of TV warriors crucifix AirBnB users for (probably) not declaring the income to the theft tax department.

And so the whataboutery begins...

Still haven't announced who the mysterious deceased billionaire is or was and his relatives should any exist look like never getting the borrowed watches back !

Graft "v" Barrel unsurprisingly always has the same outcome ????

The NACC, supposed to be an 'independent body' (like the EC...) has just signed its death arrest with this pantomime!

No way the next (when...?) Government (honestly...) wanting to install 'democracy' in the land will be able to keep this rotten aeropage in place.

And, more dangerously, today's decision in the Prawit corruption watches case, will make ALL of the NACC decisions, prior and future, questionable, as 'politically motivated'.

Not a shot in the foot for the NACC, more like it sitting on an exploding 'def gren', but as even chicken have been shown to be able to stay alive for some time with the head chopped off, the NACC will most probably go on with its despicable show till the end of the military dictatorship...

In the Feudal world of Sakdina, he is superior he has done nothing wrong. He would believe so, if no one else does.
