A young Saudi woman says she is stranded at Bangkok's main airport after fleeing her family and having her passport seized by a Saudi official.

Rahaf Mohammed al-Qunun, 18, says she was on a trip to Kuwait with her family when she fled on a flight two days ago.

She was trying to head to Australia via a connecting flight in Bangkok.

This needs to be moved to the news forum. Thailand obviously trying to get on the right side of the Saudis and get her back to them with all the attendant dangers for her. In the light of recent events with dissident Saudi's this needs to get as much attention as it can in the world press if she is to stand a chance. Good luck girl.

I regret I cannot move this into the News section, though I would If I could. Our good friend Big Joke is in the mix saying " Gen Surachate said he was unaware of any passport seizure and it is unclear why Ms Mohammed al-Qunun would need a Thai visa if she was in transit to Australia and had an Australian visa. "

If she was indeed in transit to Australia, as head of immigration he should know really, that she doesn't need a visa for here. The only reason to hold her would be if, as suggested, a foreign power has called for it, under the table, as no criminal charges seem to be implied. If it turns out to be true that Saudi officials were allowed inside the "closed"zone inside the airport, that would be pretty criminal to my mind. If she is sent back and never heard from again, as is quite likely, they are knowingly sending her to her death.

And this is the Government that says you can trust them in the upcoming elections. Not on human rights it would seem.

apostasy (renouncing islam) is a capital crime in saudi...if the girl is sent back then Mr BJ would be complicit in judicial murder if it came to that...for sure she won't be heard from again...

This is unbelievably sad. I can’t believe they are condemning a young girl to death.

There is a request for anyone in Bangkok who maybe able to help legally to contact @brettbruen via Twitter. He has spoken with her, and confirmed they have told her she will be put on the 11:15am flight to Kuwait tomorrow.

I have never wished I was in Bangkok more in my life ????

Won't see head nor tail of her again.
