Livestock development officials raided a house in Ubon Ratchathani’s Muang district early on Tuesday and arrested the owner for allegedly operating a slaughterhouse without a licence.

Sorawit Thaneeto, director-general of the Livestock Development Department, said officials checked the house in Ban Nong Kae village in tambon Jaeramae following the neighbours' complaints of bad smells.

Officials found workers had slaughtered three water buffaloes. The workers fled upon seeing the officials.

The house owner, Somjit Muenthao, was arrested and charged with operating a slaughterhouse without a licence and slaughtering animals without first informing the authorities of their number and source.

I can smell a money-making opportunity here:

If our neighbour kills any of the pigs and chicken they keep, should I inform the authorities, just in case they haven't?

Will I be rewarded with 50% of any fine imposed - the same as informing on motorcyclists driving on the pavement?

Mind you, informing about the sauce is probably going to be sweet & sour.

"..operating a slaughterhouse without a licence."

She should move her operation to highway as no one would notice. BTW does highway department have a license for operating their slaughtering operations?

Arrested her right on time. After gaining profound expertise in her shop she may have considered to switch to plastic surgery, and open another unlicensed clinic for alteration butchery.

I guess a side of ribs is now off the menu?

I can imagine another smell and of the same reason purchase the meat at Food Center..:whistling:

Hope the regs only apply to water buffalo and cattle. If it applies to anything smaller then criminals inhabit every 3rd house in my Sisaket village. Hopefully at least there's an exclusion for non-resale activities.

Edit: and I'm saying nowt about my father-in-law!

“Slaughterhouse”  Ugh, That word always conjures up memories of my last divorce settlement.
