Buying new Motorbike

Featured Replies

We are looking to buy a new Honda Click 150. Our current bike of 9 years is getting lots of problems. GF went to Minyon 3rd road & Pattays South to price and check out. She was told in order to try out the bike, you had to buy it first as they were new. Is this in fact true? If that is the case, where would you rent one to try? Thanks

Typical idiotic Thai supplier/customer service comment.  I doubt that its true of all suppliers, as I have tried out bikes before.  is it a smaller outlet with no demonstration bikes? Is it an approved Honda dealer? they normally have bikes to try out.

Strange how on scooter forums, in the US for instance, they complain about the same thing.

maybe they are idiots too?

Find it hard to believe that there isn't another agent locally with better service. Surely?

have a 125 click and also looking to exchange for 150 click, quoted 62k as final price. Many dealers allow you to test drive one of the in-house models..... many dealers do not allow test drives because they don't have in-house models available for that, keep insisting or try another dealer, I used the comparison of the honda sales girl going to buy a dress or shoes and not trying, how does she knows they fit.... for me it worked out

Yes, same price she was quoted. I believe Mityon are the official dealer for Honda.

good luck and let us know how it is compared to the 125

Willyumcr, you are confused my friend. A "Honda Click 150" is a SCOOTER, not a motorbike!!

As a general rule and certainly at Mityon in Pattaya, there are no available scooters/motorbikes for testing (other than sitting on it in the showroom to judge the "fit"). Given the number of motorbikes available for rent in Pattaya (or any other tourist location in Thailand), this is seldom seen as a problem, as you can find almost anything available to rent for a day for around B200 that you might be considering to purchase. I am guessing that the mark-up on new motorbikes is much less in Thailand and does not cover the cost of having bikes to test available at each showroom. And the number of models is significant, and having all of them available to test is simply not realistic. And most Thais know what they want (a Wave) without testing it first.

Yes test rides/drives are hard to come by in Thailand. Okay for cars/SUV's you can normally book a test drive car.

I never did a scooter test ride here but as mentioned you can go rent the same scooter you are interested in. I did that some years ago. Was interested in a PCX and since I was on Phuket for a few days, I rented a PCX. Bought a PCX when the 150cc model was launched and still have it.

We bought a Finano last week for the wife, no test ride, only sitting on one in the shop to see how it fits her, nice scooter she is quite happy with it, ABS on the front wheel, good stuff.

isn't another agent

Mityon have a virtual monopoly in Pattaya... unless you go to "Big Bikes" (Honda,Kawasaki,Yamaha,Ducati, Hardley have show rooms but maybe no test rides either ?? )

Honda Click 150..well rent a Honda Click 125 for a few days and anticipate the  extra 25cc of power !!!????

Why do you want a test drive? It's just a 125 SCOOTER with a bit more power. The same as every other 125 scooter.

Out of interest, how do you plan on selling the old bike? I tried to trade my mint condition Yamaha Nouvo. Six years old with 16,000km on the clock. The dealer would only offer me Baht 10,000 for it. Says it is how old it is determines the price, not the condition or mileage.

So I decided to keep it!

@Oink you could have sold it privately...dealers always give a low price.

I also have a Yamaha Nouvo but is 9 years old. I plan to keep it and send it country side for when GF visits home.
