Noob question here but if I want to drive from pats to sri racha.... do I drive up that road past the new terminal 21... drive past bus station on left. Right a T intersection and then 1st left on that toll way? Do I just follow that all the way to Sri  racha? Assuming there are signs to turn off there?

If I want to return to rayong am I best to head back down that same highway?

thanks

Yes just keep heading north on Sukhumvit..you will arrive in Sri Racha in about 30 Kilometers.

...and then enjoy the many red traffic lights along Sukhumvit (highway 3) in Sri Racha. It can really make you appreciate how smoothly traffic flows on Sukhumvit in Pattaya.

You describe the route through Pattaya north rd.

What the best way to Sukhumvit is, depends on your exact starting point.

Yes many traffic lights and sometimes lots of police "waiting behind bushes"  to pounce on speeders  or wrong lane users !... but no toll-ways...remember no motorbikes allowed on toll-ways. ????

When I need to drive to Sri Racha, I head north out of town on Sukhumvit and just drive straight, no tollbooths, on the maps it's shown a "Motorway 3", from Patts to Sri Racha it's about a 30 minute drive.

As for returning, just head South on the same motorway.

if Im driving past the bus station on the left when I get to that intersection do I then turn left? is that northbound to sr racha?

Yes, that is Sukumvit going north (and south if you turn right). Just keep going and you will get to Sri Racha after Laem Chabang. I like Sri Racha.

If you are on Pattaya Nua (North Road) and drive past the bus station on your left, then yes, turn left at the "T" intersection and keep heading north another 30 minutes or so. As someone mentioned earlier about police, stay in the left lane as much as possible on Sukhumvit and only use the right lane for passing slower moving vehicles, the cops have been known to pull over cars staying in the passing lane too long.

Is this recent as not something I have ever noticed before? I don't drive it that often these days but probably once/twice per week last few weeks and not noticed anything.

Not recent, I've made that drive over the years and noticed them only sometimes, mostly in the mornings 0900-1100.  It's been at least 6 months since I made that trip and I didn't see a one, but it's still something to keep in the back of the mind.
