I thought I might try my hand a taking a panoramic shot at the dam today.  The result is a little odd but covers a greater area of the reservoir.  The actual dam is on the right.

The second reservoir I shot from on a hill.  Both shots are quite large if you click on them.

That is certainly not my intent.????  I just get tired of people painting such a bleak picture of life in Thailand.  Yes, some people live pretty miserable lives here but I believe they are overrepresented, online.  There are many of us who live quiet, comfortable lives, with someone who loves us as much as we love them.  I am just trying to balance the scale a bit by showing the other end of the spectrum.  Some of us are happy, healthy, and in loving relationships.

"by showing the other end of the spectrum"...…

You are doing a great job of it and thank you for doing so.

BTW... I'm not really jealous. BUT if I ever were to be it would be of you. ????

Many can have what you have if they truly want to regardless of where they live in the world. I think it's great that you share with the rest of us what is truly possible as far as a lifestyle instead of whining and complaining about this and that. I hope others follow your lead and reach the level of happiness you have.

I find the hue of the greenery is more vibrant than back in the northern U.S. The leaves are thicker generally and simply, again, the the color of green is much more beautiful imo here.

Real nice shot! The reflection of the trees in the water reminds me of Bob Ross's work.

We do not live as remote as VF does, we are in an older mooban with huge parcels of land which I preferred. I kind of like having neighbors. I grew up in the country so living there is no problem for me but I did not want the long drives to the "City" as some others have. Again all personal expectations and requirements.  Its no different anywhere you live. We find a location that checks off most of the boxes. If you live like that, you will likely be far more content.  For us, we have a big market near us, The Wang river is 200 yds away and being close to the river the water table is quite low so well water is always present. We also have easy access to all major roads. One big perk is we have GREAT city water and pressure and pick up garbage 2 times a week. We have a hospital about 10 minutes from us but that was not and still isn't a huge priority to me. That said 10 minutes from our home in any direction I am out in the country and in the mountains with endless roads to go ride.

To VF's point its nice to see and share in a thread where its not all gloom and doom and the sky is falling. As was stated there are many of us that live a wonderful quiet life with little to no issues.

JAFO - Are you also in the Chiang Rai area or elsewhere? Sorry if you mentioned that before.

There seems to be nothing greener than a young rice field.

Snakes are really quite timid and do their best to avoid humans. With the standing water and all the herbicides and pesticides sprayed on the fields I wouldn’t be too worried. After the rice harvest, when things are dryer and there are more mice running around there may be more snakes but still little chance of seeing any.  Where I live the villagers like to eat snakes so they have to be very quick to avoid being eaten.

Does it look like that these days in the North? Or has the Asia brown cloud reached there too?

Yes, there are snakes about, because at the start of every wet season I see a bunch of them, unfortunately, squashed on the roads after they've come out of the fields, and in the cold season I see quite a few crossing the dirt tracks where I ride my push bike, but I've never seen one while actually walking across a field.  Probably because they've had more time to get out of the way.

Their eggs can also be found occasionally:

What I find incredible is that most of the fields in Isaan will soon be dried out and rock solid, but every year, come the rain, they are crawling with fish.

We seldom ever eat in the main living area upstairs. We are always outside and underneath during the days.

We relax in the shade and the house receives a really nice breeze so its always cool even during the hot seasons.

One of the 4 or 5 Doves that come for a drink. They have gotten very comfortable around people. No threat to them. They nest in the trees next to the house.

We get a lot of roadkill too but I have never seen snake eggs.  Those are interesting.

That’s interesting, we took several trips to Lampang not too long ago for my mother-in-law’s radiation treatment after the chemo was finished. She actually stayed there for a month and we drove over to visit.  We liked the walking street and the old bridge.

Just saw your post.  Great stuff !   Maybe I will have to get an Iphone !  Big step from my 900 baht Nokia.

When my daughter was here she did take a photo I have posted a few times,  looking out from my modest home.  Stay happy ...

Did she go to the Lampang Cancer center? If so, that is a nice little medical facility and well organized. My wife and I do our annual physicals there. Blows me away how affordable it is and the service you receive then the comprehensive lab reports sent.

Yes downtown Lampang has a lot of history and the market area on weekends is fun to browse and take in some eats. Many also like the horse and carriage ride. We visit downtown Lampang to take in some Sushi and Saki on the river. Lots going on at night.

Yes, she was at the Cancer center and stayed in an apartment walking distance from there.

Rumak,

Honestly any new top smartphone has an outstanding camera built in it. The key with any new phone is settings.  I just recently upgraded and now use a Samsung Galaxy S9+.  It takes amazing photos.

I guess the Samsung is less expensive than the iPhone ?   what did it cost ?     To be honest, being retired I don't even use the phone much,  but an upgrade would be nice ( with a camera)

And the only internet i need is at home.   Any medium price phone/camera recommendations appreciated.

Generally, I do like Samsung (TV, Fridge.........but not A/C )

Bit too early to be tilting for POTY, no?

I jest of course. The OP's positive contributions to this forum are the stuff of legend and he has pitched his tent in a really nice neck of the woods.

A quick Google search will give price and spec comparisons between different brands and models.  I don't think we need to focus too much on brands and prices.  We all have different reasons for liking what we like and I think that is perfectly normal and okay.

I came in third place two years running and I think that was a fair appraisal of my potential.  I am not a frontrunner, just a colorful aside for a thoughtful few.????????
