Windows 10,change file icon.

Featured Replies

I' ve been trying to change the file icon on my mp3 files.

Ive gone through a few tutorials all saying to use filetypeman.

I follow it through and the icon changes in the program but nothing happens in file explorer.

has anybody been through this before.

Mine change depending on the app or program you set in Settings/Apps/Default Apps to open the file.

Yes, it seems that the icon Windows uses is the icon associated with whatever program you have set as the default for playing .mp3 files.  So, the path to follow would be to find a way to change the icon your .mp3-playing program uses.  Not sure that is even possible, though.

Just right click on the file icon you want to change, select properties then select change icon. You're then present with a host of icons to choose from.

I don't think that works for changing all MP3 files icons.

You have to go to Settings - Default Apps.

If you use VLCPlayer and want to change the default traffic cone then this little free program will do the trick:- https://sourceforge.net/projects/vlciconchanger/
