Knife wielding "rot daeng driver" wais in apology;  charged with two crimes

A red song thaew driver in Chiang Mai has been charged by the police. 

 

Son, 69, was charged with having a knife in public and behaving in an intimidating manner that could scare the public. 

 

A post - since deleted - showed him wave a sword at a white car after some road rage jousting around the moat in the northern Thai city.

 

But in a video at the police station shown on Channel 7 news he insisted that he acted because he was furious about the driving of the man behind the wheel of the white car. 

 

He said that he was cut up dangerously by the car before the car braked in a dangerous manner three times almost causing him to go into the back of it. 

 

He was adamant that despite the post being made by a woman it was a man driving - "a woman would not behave like this, believe me" he told a Channel 7 reporter. 

 

Sanook showed him apologizing and doing a wai. 

 

They further reported the head of the red song thaews in the city as saying that the driver had been warned about his future conduct. He had never been in trouble before.

I'd guess that to be more accurate, once the story hit the press, the police had to 'act' to save face, and pretend they were doing their job anyway.

 

Note I use 'act' the sense of 'playing out a scene', rather than proactively doing a genuine job.

Ohh he seems truly apologetic and conciliatory.. 

 

Fact hes hes just another 1 of 100s... The rot deangs seem to think they have every right to ignore lane markings, parking rules, stop and inconvenience all other road users as they ply thier trade. Its just built in, everyone has to go around or give way to them. The least professional of professional drivers seem to occupy all the seats in the Thai transport industry. 

I'm sure all riders/drivers are "tooled up these days" is it actually safe to be out in public anymore?

Would be nice if they checked all taxi , tuk tuk and songteaw drivers for hidden weapons.

Come on 69...even some of the hardest from The Den gave up way befor that age
