A first-year student was killed when she fell from a room on the eighth floor of an apartment building in Pathum Thani early on Monday.

Police said Wissanee Srisiri, 20, a student of Dhurakij Pundit University’s Faculty of Mass Communications, fell in an apparent suicide from a room at the Deluxe Place apartment in Muang Ek housing estate in tambon Lak Hok, Muang district.

Wissanee was staying with her friend, Nannapat Laoluakiart, 20, who was sleeping at the time.

Nannapat told police that Wissanee came to stay with her at the apartment for over a year. Nannapat said she learned that her friend had lately had issues with her family and boyfriend.

Nannapat said she Wissanee stayed overnight at a hotel in Pathum Thani’s Lamlukka district on Saturday and had tried to commit suicide, but Nannapat managed to stop her in time.

Nannapat said Wissanee promised her not to do it again and they separated to do their errands on Sunday, after which she returned to her room at the apartment building.

Nannapat said she received a call from Wissanee at 10pm on Sunday that she would return late as she was drinking. Nannapat said she went to sleep and left the room’s key under the door for her friend.

Nannapat said she later woke to the sound of the balcony door opening. She rushed to check and saw Wissanee on the ground, and so went downstairs and called for help.

It may be appropriate to change the building codes for high railings at this point-it’s not like these buildings are architectural masterpieces or anything

Did she fall or did she jump?

Does it matter? The poor kid's dead. Maybe by using "fell" the newspaper trying to save hurt feelings among relatives, which is showing a lot more sensitivity than is usual here.
