PHUKET: A pile of dumped garbage catching fire near a resort in the heart of Patong has prompted Patong Mayor Chalermluck Kepsub to issue a stern warning that any persons caught dumping garbage will face a fine of up to B10,000.

In order to help catch the culprits, Patong Municipality will install 37 CCTV cameras along the beach road, Mayor Chalermluck explained.

The fire, which broke out about midday behind the Chilli Salza Patong hotel between Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Rd and Phra Metta Rd last Wednesday (Feb 27), raised serious safety concerns as there are many hotels and businesses in the immediate area.

Probably dumped and burned there by the hotels and businesses nearby.

Again, where is the list of government approved waste/recycling plants where citizens can legally take their rubbish for "proper" disposal ? ? ?

Such a bargain.

For those who fail to comply with not smoking on designated Thailand beaches will be subject to a fine of 100,000 baht and a maximum jail sentence of one year, or both.

Just put a compulsory garbage collection fee for all houses, apartments, and business. This will sort out the garbage all over the place. And in the long run any dog, cat and rat problem.

More garbage collection trucks and incinerator capacity will be needed as well to handle it. But if it came with a good recycling system I’m sure it would work. Maybe a Singapore company could run it for some years first :whistling:

That would cost money.  Fines make money.  Phuket Business 101.
