March 25, 20196 yr Hi all, Looking at Myanmar - DMK - Krabi flight with Air Asia, the connection in DMK is only 90 mins flying from Mandalay. If we fly in from Yangon it's 2 hours. This will be on Dec 23 2019 Given that we'll have to deal with immigration (I've never dealt with immigration in DMK before), is 90 min connection too tight? Would it be more advisable to go for the 2 hour connection? Which will mean flying out of Yangon instead of Mandalay.
March 25, 20196 yr Popular Post Definitely go for the longer connection. Shit happens, and Murphy's Law reigns supreme.
March 25, 20196 yr Popular Post 23 Dec, peak of peak season. Even 2 hours is not too much. Immigration at DMK? I don't know too much about it. But I would not calculate with less than 1 hour. At least incl. baggage pickup. AirAsia check in: I have seen the chaos on my own (fortunately just passing by). I am overcautious and would take the first Yangon flight arriving 10:30 and book Krabi at 14:20. Yes, boring at terrible DMK if all works out much faster, but better safe than sorry,
March 25, 20196 yr Not a chance ! Air Asia is point to point carrier so retreive bags re check in that alone without any delays is too tight IMHO

March 25, 20196 yr Popular Post Airasia provide fly-through between Mandalay and Krabi through DMK meaning your luggage are checked through final destination. You will need to clear immigration at DMK but that can be done inside transit area instead of arrival hall. You will need to buy Mandalay-DMK-Krabi in one ticket to get the fly-through service though.
March 26, 20196 yr Author So once I actually looked at Air Asia website direct, looks like there's actually a 3hr lay-over, so that *should* be enough time. I will be booking the whole ticket (Yangon - Krabi) direct with Air Asia - they offer that option with a layover in DMK, so all on one ticket. I will be hoping to avoid check-in, but not sure what Air Asia offers hand-luggage so we'll see what happens.

On all my fly-through flights inbound I have to clear using the regular immigration desks outbound it is fast, inbound not so much.

As sanmyintnuang says. If you have a fly through ticket you clear immigration at transit not arrivals. If your clearing at arrivals then you haven’t booked a fly through ticket. With fly through your baggage is checked in all the way through till your final destination. Also note, to book fly through your flights have to be with the same carrier. You have to stipulate fly through when booking your flights as it cannot be done at the check in counter later. You will be given all your boarding passes at original check in airport.

It is possible to miss the ground staff holding the placard at arrival gates for escorting passengers with fly-trough. In that case you can clear immigration at arrival and walk to domestic terminal or look for "domestic transfer" sign for immigration clearance at transit area. Below is the instruction link from AirAsia for international-domestic transfer using fly-through https://www.airasia.com/my/en/our-connections/connecting-flights.page#tabanchor
March 27, 20196 yr According to some of the more jaded posters on this forum you will probably be detained and deported using such a lawless entry point.
March 28, 20196 yr Forget transiting at DMK below 4 hours; alternatively just put in an extra day in Bangkok or enter from Mandalay/Rangoon via Chiang Mai with much easier immigration queues
April 1, 20196 yr Author Thanks all. Looking on AirAsia website, there's actually a 3hr 30m layover in DMK. I must go through DMK as i'll be going Yangon - DMK - Krabi (well, that's the plan so far!)
April 28, 20196 yr It also depends on the time. I recently flew into Don Muang and arrived at 6:30am. I was in a Taxi by 7:10am. That was with checked baggage too.

I did fly through Phnom Penh, DMK, Chiang Mai last week, unbelievably fast through the Air Asia 'pass to domestic' lobby. About 4 minutes at immigration, plus 10 minutes spent walking from one gate to the next. This was at 9:30am on a weekday.
