2009 was the last time I used 3BB up in chiang mai and it was for 4 months before cancelling where I don't believe there were any penalties.

Last year in Chiang Mai I had Sinet which was awesome, 500b deposit for modem, offices in every mall and month to month.

Now I have moved back down to Pattaya where after talking to 3BB, True and AIS the only package available to me is 50/20mpbs VDSL with 3BB and I was unable to get a straight answer what happens when I terminate the contract after 6 months. They explained I can put it on hold for 3 months twice but not cancel.

Old posts seem to think the fee is 5000b or pay the remaining months which means it would be better for me to just pay the whole year @ 6970b (8% discount apparently) and be done with it, but I am fairly sure (considering there is currently a 3bb VDSL modem in the room at the moment) there must be a better way to cancel that doesn't charge me the full 12 months.

Anyone have experience with 3BB for 6 months rental recently?

They usually make foreigners pay the first full year up-front, for precisely this reason. Only after the first year do they let you pay monthly. If there is an existing working connection in your place then you may be able just to keep on paying it monthly without changing the details. Ask the owner.

I always pay a year in advance to get the 8% discount mentioned.

An exception would be Sophon Broadband who do only charge monthly. That may be available in your area.

My real estate agent spoke with an engineer at 3BB and he told here you can pay 6 month contract just pay for modem which is 2000b or something which is much cheaper than the extra 3735b for 5 unused months (subtracting 8% discount) plus you can most likely return or sell the modem. Reminds me when a landlord wanted an extra 2000b a month (x6 months) for a washing machine I could have bought for 8000b then sold...

So much confusion when talking to reps on the 3BB office vs the 3BB engineer who sees it all on the ground.

I doubt that engineers know much about the pricing and contractual details of what they install, as they never come into contact with that side of the operation. In the same way that I would not expect a girl in a 3BB office to know much about how to install a cable.

Don't know about you but I have never met an engineer that gets their hands dirty. They are more like the architect, the cable install gets done by like a technician/contractor
