Yip..the manager of what????????????

Plenty that doesn't fly about all this, especially the part that she has been in Thailand for so long living-it-up and suddenly she's just 2 weeks away from being a "manager" of something which sounds highly dubious without even starting on WP requirements/rules. I might have believed that she was about to become a teacher but judging by the Instagram and social media pictures/activity then I doubt that raising the education of others is very high on bucket list. Another thing is that she has been living-it-up here for a while ... who with exacty? Doubt she was home alone, so why doesn't he (suppose could be a "her" these days) man-up (or woman-up in these days of equality) and sort it out for her? Guess a boyfriend in the background would have a negative downer on donations though. Too much ambiguity on all fronts in this one but because she's hot and displayed the right pictures then it works on the easily influenced weak-minded types. Still, no substitute for proper insurance as has been adequately mentioned by others and far too many people live in La La Land these days on this and many other fronts.

She is Scottish, so that explains why she never stumped up the cash for health insurance.

Maybe she tried paying with Scottish Pounds, but the insurance company wouldn't accept them.

Looking at her IG page it seems she has been in Thailand a long time and particularly on Phi hi Island. Very sorry but shes irresponsible to not have travel insurance.

A travel insurance does not cover for a "long time".

In reaction to the various posts regarding her stupidity in not having travel insurance.

Well it's true, and stupid, but how many of us at 25 didn't think we were immortal?

I was immortal when travelling around Europe by MC as a 25 year old Briton.

But being immortal does not pay medical fees for illness or injury.

Which is why I carried the card which gives reciprocal medical arrangements in EEC countries.

And why my MC insurance had an extension for mainland Europe.

It is not thought which causes these people grief.

It is lack of it.

Any idiot can "put a girdle 'round the earth" today.......and many do.

Does anyone know exactly what a British Influencer is...I've never heard of that job description in my life.??

Try Google. Influencers use social media to earn a living. If they have enough followers who like what they post , pictures, stories, videos, they can earn a lot of money.

If she is so poorly, how can she be medevaced?

That's the whole idea of a medevac flight. If the person is not incapacitated by their illness, they can just take a normal, unassisted flight. If they are so sick that they cannot travel on their own but need specialised medical equipment and assistance for it to be safe for them to travel on a plane, that is precisely when a medically-assisted (medevac) flight is to be used.

Allianz website says nothing about direct billing a Thai hospital.  The AXA website gives no information about direct billing a Thai hospital.  In fact it gives no information at all about filing a claim except to list a toll free number to call.  But thanks for responding

If you can afford to travel half of the world around...Then you surely can afford to pay for a TRAVEL INSURANCE....Wish you the best and hope you get well again, but no money from here...you took a chance and sadly lost....

Not only be a backpacker travelling the world, but one who was going to start a new job in Thailand. Really? How does that work, then?

This woman really needs to get herself back to UK for free UK NHS treatment. nothing states why she can't mobilise herself to do so.

She can afford to travel around Asia, stay away from UK, but cannot afford to get herself back for professional treatment? cost of a one-way ticket - 200 UK sterling? She/family, can't afford that? They need thousands?

Why?

Do GoFundme follow up on these cases? If it turned out to be a relatively minor virus and she is out in a week whats to stop the 25k funding another sun filled year or 2 on Phi Phi. Not at all suggesting that's the case here but have often wondered how these fund raisers are policed and accountable.

Everyone shouts "Hallelujah!  We have cured her with our kind thoughts and money!" before going on to the next worthy fund me cause.

I have never understood the hatred towards 'Go fund me'.  I will never use it or even click on it, and the only way I know about it and those who ask for money, is from these threads here, but what others choose to do with their money is up to them.  I guess the thought of someone getting something for nothing really burns away at some.  Maybe we need an updated version of "the grasshopper and the ant" fable?  Whereby the ant carefully takes out travel insurance, and never needs to claim on it, while the grasshopper jaunts around the world, having a lot of fun, but regularly crashing his scooter or falling ill, and the ant bails him out through 'Go fund me' each time.  More fool the ant, I say.

Well Darwin is certainly turning in his grave.  People die - it is natural, young people it is tragic, but certainly happens.  You have no insurance, no family support - no worries - go fund me = and totally anonymous people will donate their hard earned cash to save your life, that is Natural Selection for the 21st century .

Of course there are diseases where you may not recover - seems her doctors have tried many things to diagnose and treat her to no avail.

Of course we all wish her well and to recover, time will tell

The websites of the insurances will not necessarily talk about direct billing because it is normal procedure. I know maybe 2 companies who don't do it and about 50 who do.

(Promotional flyers do mention it).

It is the websites of the international hospitals that like to mention their direct billing agreements.

NB direct billing normally involves an assistance company.  So the hospital is billing the assistance company, and the assistance company is billing the main insurance.

Allianz and April have their own assistance companies.
