April 10, 20196 yr Looking to buy some tool steel to make a few lathe cutting tools. Anyone know what the color designation is for this? I see red-blue-green and orange painted ends but don't know what they designate. I need different shape lathe chisels. Difficult to find here.Easier to just make my own-assuming I can source the correct steel.
April 11, 20196 yr Not sure that there is a hard and fast rule for the colours, I think that while they may be loosely based on a system they are supplier dependent so not a true identifierYou may be best trying to speak to the stockholders......Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk

April 13, 20196 yr It depends on who manufactures the steel, there is no universal colour code - example - http://www.diehlsteel.com/technical-information/grade-color-codes If you buy tool steel you would then have to "harden" it, do you have the equipment to do that?
