Converting Australian DL to Thai, what's the process is in BKK?

Featured Replies

I have a current Australian car and motorcycle DL and a Non-Immigrant O-A Visa.

My question is:

What is the process to convert a Au DL to a TH DL for both car and bike? Ive read variations on the process that include or don't include a driving test, 6 week wait for a physical license etc.

So far it looks like I need...

Medical cert

Copies of my lease

TM30

TM6

Relevant passport page copies

Copy of Au DL

Signed Th DL application

Copies for each license.

...Do I have to sign the copies? Do I need my embassy to sign as well?

Then show up, do the video, eye test and a driving test.

Also any tips on where to go do this, time of the day, day of the week etc would be welcome.

Thanks

you are applying for a license, not converting. I say this because it might cause confusion.

i have both car and bike license and have renewed and each time the license was handed to me right away.

I did mine several years ago when I first moved here, was fairly straight forward, I have a heavy truck, car and bike licence, car and bike were straight change overs at different desks but the truck desk wanted me to pay extra to get it so I told him to shove it. You will need to do their various tests(eye, co ordination, reflex, peripheral vision) which are fairly basic and that should be it but it can vary with different offices, first up for me was  a 1 year licence then the next time it is a 5 year licence,I had to supply  a certificate of residency as well as all the other documents too, hopefully you wont have to sit through their BS video, I got mine straight away every time once the pic was done and they were printed up

Thanks guys.

Yes, applying for a license.

I live in Phra Khanong.

You might need to show an international driving permit from Australia

Yes, applying for a license.

My Oz buddy needed an IDP with his Oz DL at our local DLT, best go ask your nearest DLT.

Apparently it's to do with Oz having different DL's in other states of Oz.
