THE SYDNEY Swans won a three-way bidding war with St Kilda and Essendon to secure the services of Irish teen sensation Colin O'Riordan.

The 19-year-old was paraded before the media at the NAB AFL Draft Combine on Sunday, and AFL international academy manager Tadhg Kennelly said the County Tipperary product had faced a tough decision on his future.

Kennelly insisted he didn't cajole his compatriot into picking his former club and said the star Gaelic footballer's decision came down to "preference".

"He spent a day at the Swans, Saints and Bombers and they were jumping all over him as soon as they saw him," Kennelly told AFL.com.au.

Sudan-born ruck equals Nic Nat record

RUCKMAN Gach Nyuon has equalled a benchmark set by West Coast star Nic Naitanui, matching his absolute running vertical jumping record on day three of this year's NAB AFL Draft Combine.

Nyuon, named ruck in this year's under-18 All Australian team, jumped 94cm in the relative running vertical jump, which was behind midfielder Lachlan Tiziani (97cm) as the best at the combine.

But his leap matched Naitanui's absolute jumping record of 362cm, which was set in 2008 before the Eagles took the ruckman with pick two in that year's national draft.

A player's absolute jump refers to the highest point he can reach when jumping off the ground (measuring the distance from the ground to the highest point the prospect can reach with his arm).

Swans nab Irish gun

A player's relative jump measures the height off the ground he has jumped (the distance between the player's feet and the ground).

The Sudan-born Nyuon also proved his athleticism in the 20m sprint test, running 2.95 seconds.

But it wasn't enough to displace Alex Morgan and Kurt Mutimer from the joint first position in the highly anticipated event, with the Victorian pair recording the best time for the combine at 2.88 seconds.

They beat Eastern Ranges utility Liam Jeffs and Northern Territory speedster Daniel Rioli, who both ran 2.89 seconds for the sprint.

Rioli, whose father is a cousin of Hawthorn premiership star Cyril Rioli, has enhanced his draft position in the past week after performing well for the Allies in the Grand Final morning curtain-raiser.

The 18-year-old won the repeat sprint test on Saturday, running 24.15 sec

Bookie and GrantS won't be happy this morning....Leuenberger is on is way to Windy Hill.......Jamar is still an option boys hehe.

North has made a significant bit for Jeremy Howe, 500 cool ones to the underachieving high flyer, hey jo they like to waste your membership $$$$......hes ok he has just been in a crap team, just look at Frawley....did nothing all year but earned his 600 big ones in the finals shutting down 3 top players on the way to the GF.

Don't know how the Cats are going to afford in both money and draft picks Dangerfield, Selwood, Henderson and Zac Smith, it would be a worry if they could get more than two of these guys, kinda makes a mockery of equalising the comp.

The Dees apparently have been gunning for a top midfielder all year, wasn't a secret but attempts for GF Presita and Swans Hannebery were to me....We have stacks of cash....ho but who to use it on....anyway i think there barking up the wrong tree hunting a top midfielder, Jones is clearly elite and Viney jr showed in the second half he will be very soon, then you have Bernie Vince who is recognised as classy hotly followed by last years 2 early draftees in Bradshaw (who played most games) and Christian Petracca, with the imminent return of jack Trentgrove (assuming he can get over his foot problems) and expected improvements or your getting delisted end of 2016 duo in Tyson and Michie plus the added Bomber Melskham, me thinks a we should be hunting a creative half forward as well as a running defender type.

I'm a bit surprised myself Alex, unless we want to win mark of the year.

But like you say he could be better in a better team, one thinks maybe were looking for a Firrito type as he is nearly done.

Seedsman would still be my choice as when he is up and running,he's a match winner.

Howe obviously flys under the radar due to the team he plays for, he wouldn't be a bad pick up, he's played virtually every game under Roos mainly as a defender, I think he should be played in the middle if he stayed a Dee, his manger came out yesterday and said he's a top sprinter and a few other favourable things,by the sounds of it playing forward he's a touch short for a key position and that was where they had him and in my opinion a bit loose for a defender, North want Him as a forward, a flanker....would suite him you guys have a half decent forward line as it is, we need a shake up of the list pre Roos.

Apparently in this mornings paper your coach is hot for Howe.....

Leuenburger must like the gear better down at Windy Hill. That being said, the rumour was started by Caro, so we'll have to wait and see tongue.png

I see the Danger deal is done with the Cats giving up picks 9, 28 and Dean Gore in exchange for Danger and pick 50...

Looks like Sydney might not be getting any West Coast ruck for jetta... Jetta could end up in the draft..but still back at WestCoast... Sydney will end up with nothing for him

The Leuenberger deal...Might have been over the amount of money Sydney has been restricted they can trade..

Sydney could end up with zero ruck trades

I wouldn't think WC would let Jetta get to the draft.

I was thinking offering our first pick (17) for him but we've just given that to Brisbane for Redden.

Redden would've been my 3rd target after Jetta and Jed Anderson from the Hawks.

We've also been given a low draft pick for Selwood (37) so I'm not sure how that will work out.

I still reckon a straight swap for Lycett would be a win/win.

Having done some research.. I would prefer Lycett over Sinclair..but all the talk seems to be about Sinclair.

No point in WCE holding all 3 of those guys...

Jetta will be picked up by WCE for nothing in the draft.

What do u think about the compo for Selwood? pick 37? Seems like a sh*t sandwich really

If Jetta went into the draft, I'm sure he's get picked up before WC.

WC shouldn'r risk it IMO.

I don't think Selwood is worth a first round pick but 37 was a tad low.

I think mid-twenties would be about right.

He couldn't get back into our side don't forget. I'm not buying all of the stuff about his ankle.

He hasn't got pace and can't kick over a jam tin.

Simmo's game plan of quick movement didn't help him. I reckon he's more of an in and under

and we've got enough of them.

The compo should be scrapped IMO.

Firstly ,KhunWIll, let me congratulate you on finally getting an avatar. Is this spotted dog replacing one of the ones you threw over the fence?

Compo. I think the clubs should have to provide the compo in a trade. Some deal should be struck or back into the draft?

Thanks BookMan.

GEELONG has created history by using its 2016 first-round pick to secure Lachie Henderson from Carlton.

It is the first time a club has used a future draft pick to make a trade.

The value of the pick will be dependent on where Geelong finishes on the ladder next season.

It is 25-year-old Henderson's third club.

Cats list manager Stephen Wells told NAB AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday that Henderson would be used in both attack and defence, before settling in the backline over coming years.

"Lachie's a versatile player, so he'll be (at) both ends of the ground," Wells said.

"But over the next couple of years as guys finish up in our backline … that are into their 30s now, we see Lachie playing his best footy down back for us."

Originally drafted by the Brisbane Lions, he played 15 games for the club in 2008 and 2009. He then landed at the Blues as part of a trade that saw Brendan Fevola move to Brisbane.

Henderson played 102 games for Carlton, finishing third in the best and fairest in 2013.

However he had a very ordinary 2015 and Carlton requested he leave the club with three games remaining after he told them he wanted a trade.

His acquisition means Geelong have secured Henderson, Patrick Dangerfield and Scott Selwood in the first three days of the trade period.

Under the rules Geelong will not be able to trade any more of its 2016 draft picks during this trade period.

Wells acknowledged it would have been more challenging to secure Henderson if the future draft-pick initiative was not in place.

"I don't know how we would've got this all done if the future picks weren't there," he said.

"Obviously it would've been a little bit more difficult to do what we did with Patrick (Dangerfield) and Lachie – we would've had to try and find another way."

The Cats also have Gold Coast ruckman Zac Smith in their sights.

They are likely to have seven players who have played with other clubs on their list in 2015.

Bit of movement at the station today... Bennell heading to Freo for a couple of draft picks (16 & 35)... Word also getting around the soi that Stevie J could be heading to the Harbour City, though it's likely he'll end up at GWS, Sydney - through Tom Harley - have had a chat.

Whilst I wouldn't mind seeing Stevie J in red & white next year, I can't see where we'd have him.

Fremantle has secured the services of midfielder Harley Bennell in a deal with the Gold Coast Suns.

The club will exchange picks 16 and 35 in return for Bennell, with Fremantle also securing draft pick 22 from the Gold Coast.

Fremantle has agreed to a three-year contract with Bennell, who played 92 AFL games for the Suns after being taken at pick two in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft.

Bennell flagged his desire to return home to Western Australia and Fremantle was his club of choice.

“I’m excited about returning home to WA and joining Fremantle,” he said.

“I want to thank the Gold Coast for drafting me and the support they have offered me during my time at the club.

“My main focus now is to knuckle down and have a solid pre-season over the coming months.”

The club subjected Bennell to a rigorous interview and assessment process before agreeing to the trade.

The 23-year-old has had numerous meetings over the past few weeks with key people at the club, including senior coach Ross Lyon, general manager of football operations Chris Bond, general manager of player management Brad Lloyd, CEO Steve Rosich and the club’s fitness and medical staff.

He has also met with the leadership group and other players.

Lloyd said: “We’re happy to have secured Harley’s services on a three-year term.

“Club staff and players have met with Harley over the past few weeks and we’re confident he will be a valuable acquisition.

Not the best deal for Sydney...though some West Coasters might be thinking the same..

but.. one pork chop is better than no pork chops

Not sure how I feel about this one.

We have a good replacement in Lycett and Jetta gives us a line breaking runner with pace.

It's probably a fitty fitty call at the minute.

Will be good to revisit this in a years time.

Even so, I'm going to miss Sinkers.
