(Jonathan Giles and pick 62 traded to West Coast in exchange for pick 57.)

Could anyone please explain why the Eagles did this?

Port didn't give him a game after recruitment, Giants played him for a while then delisted, only 3 games with Essendon.

Do WCE really need a fourth string ruckman?

Perhaps East Perth need one to play the whole season in the WAFL?

I'm hearing you.

I was stunned at that decision.

There's some weird trades going on today!

Charlie Dixon signs a 5 year deal with Port, Port receives Dixon and pick No.49 and gives up pick No.10 and its 2016 second-round pick. Gold Coast receives picks No.10 and 31 and two 2016 second-round picks and gives up Dixon and picks No.19 and 49. Richmond receives pick No.19 and gives up pick No.31 and its 2016 second-round pick. Naturally Port are already laying claim to the flag for next year :rolls:

Carlisle to get to the Saints and picks 14 from Sydney and pick 44 from Essendon. Essendon receiving Craig Bird from the Swans for pick 24 and pick 5 goes to the Saints and the Saints give the Swans pick 25. This trade's still being worked out, but allows the Swans to pick up both their academy pick and father & son pick.

Bird should do okay at Essendon.

3 first round picks... #3, 10 & 16

For a team that's won 3 straight, Hawthorn have come out alright in this draft with 2 first round picks 15 & 18.

Gold Coast have traded those picks to Melbourne

MELBOURNE will take two top-10 draft picks into the 2015 NAB AFL Draft after orchestrating a deal with Gold Coast that sees them land pick No.3 and pick No.10 in exchange for pick No.6 and a future first-round pick.

Gold Coast has picks 6, 29, 31 and 35 and expects to secure Matt Rosa from West Coast.

Eagle Matt Rosa flies north to join Suns

The Suns gave the Eagles pick No.31 in exchange for the 28-year-old midfielder, who will add much-needed experience to Gold Coast's on-ball division.

Rosa surprised the 2015 runners-up by requesting a trade last week, with West Coast list manager Craig Vozzo saying soon after that he remained hopeful of convincing Rosa, who was contracted for 2016, to stay.

But Rosa held firm on his request for a move, perhaps sensing that his midfield opportunities with the Eagles could dry up after he started in the substitute's green vest four times this year, including on Grand Final day.

A fine soldier for WC.

With Redden, Jetta and Duggan, who will back from injury, would probably struggle

to hold a spot in the side.

GC have a strong midfield so unless he plays wing, he might struggle to get a game

there as well.

All the best Matty.

Ahhh so thats how they did it, obviously we can't see what they can, The Dees say there not trading these early pics.

Hawks also have 2 first round picks to date...now they know how to work the system...

Cats....umm....have sold there soul by giving up pics and future pics, we will know come sept if it was a smart move......you would think that by sticking there necks out sooooooo faaaaaaaar 2 flags within the next 3 years should be the minimum to say it was a good move.

Judging by where players are going ladder positions won't change to much, we have now a situation were there are several very astute clubs then theres the rest of them oh and a couple of duds

Menzel to Crows as Carlton nabs midfielder and a pick

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-10-21/blues-send-menzel-to-crows

Gee, if you're a Carlton supporter, you'd want to hope they have something

up their sleeve for the remainder of the trade period.

Menzel can play and at 21, has a fair bit of upside I think.

Carlton for the wooden spoon next 3 years?

Already this trade period, the Blues have traded key-position player Lachie Henderson to Geelong and midfielder Tom Bell to the Brisbane Lions for pick No.21 and a swap of later picks.

Defender Chris Yarran is also expected to join Richmond, with the Blues and Tigers currently haggling over whether pick No.12 or 19 will cross to Ikon Park.

VERSATILE big man Jake Carlisle has finally made his way to St Kilda after a breakthrough in negotiations with Essendon.

The Bombers secured St Kilda's prized No.5 draft pick, as well as Sydney Swans midfielder Craig Bird, after a three-club trade.

In the deal:
- Essendon receives Bird and pick No.5, gives up Carlisle and pick No.44, and exchanges pick No.23 for pick No.24;
- St Kilda receives Carlisle and pick No.14 and gives up pick No.5 and pick No.24;
- Sydney Swans receive picks No.23 and pick No.44, and gives up pick No.14 and Bird.

Bombers list manager Adrian Dodoro told NAB AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday that the club had not wavered in its approach to secure the Saints' draft pick No.5 as part of the deal.

"There was no way we were going to budge at all," Dodoro said.

"If we weren't going to get (pick) 5, then we wouldn't have done the trade, it's as simple as that."

The combined points from those picks (1177 points) mean the Swans will take more points to the draft to use on their academy prospect Callum Mills and potential father-son selection Josh Dunkley than they would have if they had hung on to selection No.14 (1161 points).

The deal will be a relief to the Saints, who came under enormous pressure last week when Hawthorn put a deal on the table to secure Carlisle in exchange for picks 15 and 18.

Dodoro said he believed Carlisle seemed destined to join the Hawks up until yesterday afternoon.

"I actually thought up until two o'clock yesterday he was going to the Hawks, to be honest, but the Saints pulled out another card," Dodoro said.

"I think Jake was wavering between the two (teams) … but there's no doubt it could've been either way and I'm genuine in that."

That proposal was acceptable to the Bombers but Carlisle, 24, stuck to his original commitment to cross to the Saints, provided they could deliver a deal acceptable to the Bombers before Thursday's trade deadline.

The Swans' involvement became the deal-breaker, with the Sydney club chasing points to secure its academy graduates under the AFL's new academy bidding system.

Bird's willingness to explore opportunities elsewhere also enticed Essendon, with the premiership midfielder - who played 137 games for the Swans - a good fit for the Bombers, who last week lost Jake Melsham to Melbourne.

Dodoro said Bombers coach John Worsfold expressed "a strong desire" in recent days to secure Bird's services.

"He [Worsfold] identified that was a need he wanted to fill (with) an experienced mid that can play a variety of roles," he said.

"He was the missing piece to the deal and it worked really well for us in the end."

The Dons also managed to hang on to both their second round picks, meaning they will now head to the NAB AFL Draft with picks 4, 5, 24 and 25.

The Saints also managed to stay in the first round with pick 14 and landed Carlisle, who declared St Kilda as his preferred destination a fortnight ago.
