Marble or Granite flooring?

Featured Replies

I'm familiar with the pros and cons of both, and I'm thinking of going more towards granite purely for the greater durability.

But I'm wondering what other people's experiences have been like regarding costs, installation, maintenance and after care.

What should I be aware of?

If you went marble, how was it?

Likewise granite?

TIA

My experience of stone floors is they look really nice and in a country or place where you wear shoes they are an excellent choice. The problem in a house where you will be barefoot is they usually have a high polish and with any dampness (sweat) they are extremely slippery.

Granite has proven to be an excellent choice of flooring on my home in Buriram Province. It is cooler than tile. Never an issue with cleaning. I have seen the challenges of a slate floor and a marble floor in Buriram. Same reason that Granite is rated higher by Consumer Reports for a kitchen counter than a marble counter or tile counter top. Cleaning after installation and it has been easy to maintain for over ten years in my home. Using the appropriate Weber or Lanko adhesive under the granite floor in my Buriram House has been a real benefit.

Nothing beats granite if you can afford.

Agree, we have had mainly granite floors for 15 years now, once its down it's easy to clean and maintain, dry clean so stays dry & cool.
