To me, given that apple themselves have stopped selling the X, I suspect the number of true “new” units out there isn’t all that big.... again, that’s only for truly new units.

I would however, think about buying - from Apple, an Apple refurbished unit. Why?

As I remember, all units bought via this channel are rehoused - so the outside shell is new - and - for me the big perk, they come with Apples normally warranty that you’d normally get with a truly new unit.

So, to me, the only “used” is the phone ‘guts’ as the cosmetic shell is new (as I remember reading apples marketing about the program) and it comes with their warranty as well.

I’m not wholly against going via eBay and a private seller... but IMHO, unless you’re saving a pretty penny, I like the Apple refurbished program

It is true that used iPhones are much cheaper than new iPhones. After you get your phone, make sure the used iPhone is cleaned. Notice, I know there's a "restore factory Settings" feature on the iPhone, but that's not what I mean,i mean to clean up iPhone completely.

I've seen reports of "cheap" iPhones for sale that end up being Chinese "clones" that are really Android phones but look and feel as if they're iPhones
