Police were called to a footpath on Raksakchamoon Road in Chantaburi in eastern Thailand after a father took his own four year old daughter as a hostage at knife point.

Worried residents in the Tha Chang area had earlier alerted local mayor Chalermphon Sakkham about the drama. He called the police.

As the police and rescue services arrived the man, named only as "Ek" shouted: "I'll kill anyone who comes close".

As he held the knife to the little one's throat the officials tried to calm the situation.

Daily News reported that after some considerable time he put down the knife and released the child.

Ek was taken to the Muang Chantaburi police station and then for a psychological examination at Prapokklao Hospital.

His mother said that her son was a former narcotics addict who was now in rehab.

When he didn't take his medications he had paranoia attacks and could be a scary individual.

Needs more than a chill pill...

Watched this article on C7 last night as well and surprised the BiB didn't shoot him between the eyes.  The assailant was actually chasing the BiB.  You couldn't make it up.

In fairness to the BiB they obviously safely extracted the child but could have applied the summary justice there and then.

Thankfully this is Thailand and not the USA.

Doesn't matter how many times you repeat my post the point remains.  They should've slotted him there and then.

In the UK he would have been dealt with, believe it or not and wouldn't be chasing the cops down the street.  :whistling:????

Definitely needs an injection.

A simple bullet would have done!

Holding a four year old at knife point - bloody oxygen thief! ????

"Former"? Seems he may still be a drug addict?

What are the odds that he will do this again, and maybe injure or kill someone next time?

Drug-addicted pond life aren't exactly an endangered species here. Make sure next time.
