Featured Replies

Hello All,

please, my question is how far I can install subpanel from main consumer unit.

I want to install subpanel in second floor.

my consumer unit main breaker is 50A, 15/45 and have 2 empty slots.

what 1. breaker size  and wire size to use and how to run it.

the second floor only have 1 A/C and 2 outlets and six lights

thanks

As far as you like, though the further away the larger the supply cable should be

Our house CU is about 15~20 metres from the incoming CU.

Probably 6mm cable to alow for future expansion

6 mm2 cable - 32 amp maximum circuit breaker

though 4 mm2 cable - 25 amp maximum circuit breaker, will be enough for your current needs.

You can clip the cable (as many locals do)to the wall or run it in conduit, that will look neater.

Yeah, assuming the cable length is less than 40m (let us know if it's further) then run 6mm2 3-core or 3 x single core in conduit (you could use a smaller (2.5mm2) ground then).

Supply from a 32A breaker in your existing panel.

Small breaker panel at the other end and you're good to go.

If you don't already have earth leakage protection (RCD / RCBO / Safe-T-Cut) now would be a good time to install same ????
