plugs in thailand

Featured Replies

I'm coming to thailand for the first time in August and I'm from USA, I'm wondering if I need an adapter to be able to plug in my laptop charger, phone etc into walls in thailand? My friend from UK says he needs adapters but not sure about americans

Yes you will need an adaptor for sure can buy them here for  a dollar or two but make sure that your equipment can work on 240v as well as the 100v you use in the state...

US plugs, both 2 and 3 prong will fit Thai outlets without an adaptor.

As noted above check that your kit has a "universal" power supply. Look at the rating plate, if it says something like "90-250V AC" then you're good to go. I've never come across a lappie that isn't universal, but there's always a first time.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Where you would need adapter is if you venture "up-country" to private home where receptacles needing 2 round-pins and no ground are ubiquitous.  In that case, you would lose your ground connection - but there isn't one to connect anyway.  Virtually all hotels, resorts, etc. these days should be no issue.

As written: very likely that the chargers for laptop and phone are "universal" like 50/60 Hz, 100 - 240 V or so. Check the labels.

Friend from UK: there is a chance that his plugs do not fit here.

I have seen some bulky UK stuff

But don't know the details.

And in any case: adapters of all kind available here for cheap (even at 7/11).
