A teenage boy drowned on Tuesday evening while fishing with a friend at a pond in a Krabi national park.

Haad Nopparat Thara-Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park rangers recovered the body of Jessada Ngafah, 16, at 2.30am Wednesday.

They’d been manning an office near the Khao Ngon Nak viewpoint when word came that Jessada had disappeared into the pond nearby.

They first found his shoulder bag containing a phone and his sandals at the edge of the pond.

Twenty minutes later the boy’s body was seen floating face down about five metres from the bank.

His friend Ekkapol Sangkhanarod, 21, said Jessada has asked him to go fishing the evening before and they were doing so at separate spots for 10 minutes when Ekkapol noticed he’d vanished.

Ekkapol first returned home to alert Jessada’s family, who then sought help from park rangers.

02:30 sounds fishy?

Not really, in the fishing parks i fished many were open 24 hours as some Thais love to fish at night. I preferred during the day but others like to fish at night.

At night they often lie in a hammock and have the clicker on their rod set to wake them up.

Is that legal?
