‘Economic Avenger Team’ reveals Cabinet rescue mission for Northeast

The Democrat Party's "Economic Avenger Team" on Sunday announced its fact-finding mission to the Northeast found the region is suffering two major problems – water shortages and farmers afflicted by crushing debt. Party members would begin tackling the problems once they were assigned Cabinet positions, team leader Prinn Panitchpakdi said.

Prinn, also deputy party leader, told a press conference at the Democrats’ head office that his "modern economic team" had recently visited farmers in Khon Kaen, Roi Et and Maha Sarakham and found that both urgent and long-term action was needed to solve water shortages due to prolonged drought.

Noting that recent rain-making operations had not covered drought-hit areas such as Thung Kula Ronghai in Roi Et's Kaset Wisai district, Prinn promised to coordinate with the Agriculture and Co-operatives Ministry permanent secretary on future efforts to seed clouds.

As a longer-term solution, he said a proposal for so-called “monkey cheeks” water-retention areas to supply rice-growing zones all year round would be sent to the incoming Agriculture Minister, a Democrat Party member.

Prinn said that, since the problem of overwhelming debt still afflicted nearly all farming communities, his team would push the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives to restructure debts and offer repayment leniency, as well as promote good saving habits and spending discipline among farmers.

He also said more ways must be found for farmers to boost their incomes and ease debt burdens, including by organising agricultural attractions in communities, processing farm produce into premium-quality organic products, and exploiting digital channels to sell products online, perhaps with the help of e-commerce training from the Commerce Ministry.

Noting ongoing attempts to develop new rice strains, Prinn said that people should instead focus on coaxing already-existing strains to yield better crops, adding that the related ministries of Agriculture and Co-operatives and of Commerce should discuss this together.

"The problem-solving attempts must aim to create sustainability in order to be effective in improving the economy and people's life quality," Prinn said, expressing confidence that Democrat ministers would be able to tackle the issues.

The drought areas are large and not one of the previous governments in the last 10 years has spent wisely on the issue of future water management,

now these two being optimistic to the extreme if they think their voice will be heard in this current regime.

LOL- well good luck there. Perhaps if you were to lead by example a few may convert to thriftyness. Gotta have that latest truck no matter the cost.

It took a fact finding mission for the Democrats to identify that water shortages and crushing debt are major problems in the Northeast? Where have they been for the last 20 years? Just goes to show the contempt and lack of interest they have had for these voters in the past. Only now, because they have been flushed from their traditional strongholds, are the Democrats starting to realize that people outside the big cities also have problems that need to be addressed by government.

If an area is in a drought, you cannot  draw enough from cloud seeding, just for the lack of clouds. You treat the storms you have, so cloud seeding certainly isn't going to bring you out of a drought. The best time to do cloud seeding is when you have normal levels, or higher-than-normal levels, of precipitation. Then you could save the extra water in a reservoir for when you are in a drought. It certainly won't bring you out of one.

The government, most of which is made up of junta hacks, couldn't care less about the north east and its problems. To them Bangkok is the centre of the Thai universe.

Certainly some members of the new government do have some interest but they are clearly out numbered by the useless military oafs shoehorned into parliament by the PM. They are only there to say "aye" when ordered to do so and to pick up their monthly pay cheque.

Shows how out of touch they really re needing to send a team to find out something commonly known year on year.  The oldest political party in Thailand with the oldest lack of national awareness.

All governments past and present have always told isaan to F#$^ OFF.????

This is surely a joke, somebody involved with this is having a laff.:cheesy:

Nobody in government gives a rats a++e about the north east, never have, never will.

Says it all when politicians dub themselves comic book heroes after being denied '1984' & 'Brave New World' yet allowed 'Animal Farm' 'cos Prayuth didn't understand satire.

Maybe Democrats smell another election coming and are actually being a little proactive.

Do they think we're all trapped in a cave up here in the impoverished Northeast?

Perhaps they could sent in a team of ferangs to bail us out from the rising debt. Ironic there's water shortages though.

You found the facts, huh? Same facts for the last decades, right? How much you spent to unearth these facts?

Not sure it is the pittance of the monthly paycheck.

To use the name Avengers is out of line and they should be reprimanded. What are they really going to do when the house starts, dress up in Ironman, Spiderman and Hulk outfits? Not that it wouldn't be fitting as they are all good at being chameleons.

He thought it was a useful book about farming, just like South Africa during apartheid banned the children's book 'Black beauty'

'Cloud seeding' not effective at producing rain as once thought, new research shows. Summary: ... But research now reveals that the common practice of cloud seeding with materials such as silver iodide and frozen carbon dioxide may not be as effective as it had been hoped.

First job for the avengers team where's the money gone last job for the avengers team where's the money gone????

Didn't they (the yellow shirts and many of the Democrats) want the easarn people to have less voting rights compared to the rest of the country a couple of years ago because they said that they had lower IQ then the people from Bangkok and the south? Well it seems like they finally got what they wanted with the 250 appointed senators.
