With this addition to the fleet 7 of the 46 fixed wing aircraft and at least 3 (probably 6) of the 32 in the helicopter fleet are configured as VIP transports - a remarkable proportion, especially as casual observations when landing at Don Muang suggests that a number of the aircraft parked there aren't used.

Or, how about they send the land deeds via a courier. Even cheaper.

Plane or convoy - none of it's fiscally responsible. And that's certainly not their concern.

If sent by courier, that avoids the possibility of a photo-op, and they wouldn't want that would they?

Geez, good thing we had the coup to bring an end to all that evil Shinawatra corruption.

I would be curious to hear the explanation as to why they've paid 350 million baht above the global market price for this plane.

Because they said, and I quote, The plane is nothing special and only equipped with necessary facilities.” Also, the plane was bought from abroad and the baht is really strong at the moment.

Hang on a minute.................

The Royal Thai Air Force took over one of the mothballed A 340’s in Sept. 2016 (presumably for Prayut) and there are nine more of these very undesirable fuel guzzlers still stored.

You talking about the group that Thai Airways bought and then later shelved as being too expensive and inefficient to operate... and never have been able or willing to sell since then???

What other police force in the world has a 1.1 Million Baht airplane? How many other 3rd World Countries  have these, I mean I am sure the rice farmers agree this was a justifiable purchase made with taxpayer money.

1,1 Million???

Did he PX all his very expensive rings and watches for the jet?

Impressive considering Thailand is Third world progress to world domination.

The expensive aircraft call sign could be 'High So, look at me'. Is the aircraft manufactured by Mercedes? 555... Mercs seem to be the desired choice of wannabees or power crazed individuals. Sad.

And in the market place you will normally find beggers or very old Thai male and females; I can't use the term pensioners because most Thai don't receive the generous 600 or so baht per month state pension, only the very few and lucky ones do, who are trying to make ends meet by scratching out a pathetic living and existence

Paradise...

Critics are alleging that a new 1.1 billion baht 10 seat luxury private jet is being used solely to transport the current deputy PM Prawit Wongsuwan around the country.

Perks of the position.

If Thais objected to this, likely it wouldn't have happened.  Much like the 4+ months of smog in CM.  Thailand has the power to change, but DO NOT want to.  They like it the way it is.  If they didn't it would be different.

Is flying the distance of a 2.15 hour car journey to hand back land title deeds deemed urgent?

Irrelevant according to the stated uses of the aircraft:

“The plane will be used for weekly missions, including drug suppression and other criminal crackdowns, though it will also sometimes serve commanders flying to visit police agencies countrywide.”

Prawit's trip was political in nature when clearly the stated purpose of this transportation was for police related law enforcement matters.

Gen Prawit was accompanied by Deputy Defence Minister Gen Chaichan Changmongkol. He's not Police.

Gen Prawit thanked authorities concerned for their efforts in solving debt problems for people who were charged unusually high-interest rates and forced to give up their land when they defaulted. Any of these 'authorities' on the aircraft? They were likely to be from civilian government agencies and required to find their private own way to the ceremony. I don't see Prawit traveling with any government civilians not having any organization control over them.

“Police spokesman Pol Lt Gen Piya says police had to purchase a small plane that was able to land on short runways to carry out urgent police work”

Again, how is this urgent?
