Where to complain about hospital overpricing

The Ministry of Commerce’s Department of Internal Trade will establish a centre at the middle of next month to hear complaints about private hospitals overcharging patients.

The move follows the July 31 deadline given the country’s 353 private hospitals to voluntarily submit records of what they paid and what they charge on resale for more than 3,000 types of medicine, particularly those available under the Universal Coverage for Emergency Patients.

Prayot Pensut, the department’s deputy director-general, said the aim was to assure fair pricing for consumers.

Only about 70 hospitals submitted pricing records, he said, even with the deadline extended from July 12.

The records will be published at www.dit.go.th so citizens can check the likely price range before visiting a hospital.

Meanwhile the Central Committee on Prices of Goods and Services will set price ceilings for medical supplies and services, Prayot said.

The complaints centre is being established because it’s anticipated that many people will have grievances about overpricing.

It will be open to the public within the department’s compound in Nonthaburi’s Sanam Bin Nam area, but there is also a department hotline – 1569 – and upcountry residents can file complaints in their own provinces’ Ministry of Commerce offices.

Department officials are being trained to man the centre in Nonthaburi and provincial offices, learning about different medicines and the laws and regulations involved.

Red hot I'll wager .. Will you have to use one of those translator programmes ..

" Hello "

" Harrow "

" um HELLO "

" Harrow "

" No I'm not in Harrow "

" Not say you in Harrow , only say Har-row " ..

You get the picture ..

You should watch this, it's out there on torrent, an excellent Oz series:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7242816/?ref_=nv_sr_1?ref_=nv_sr_1

When the pathologist (Dr Harrow) answers the phone with his name, I can't but help laughing every time, as it just reminds me of a Chinese person with bad Engrish.

Those Alexa talking computer things are the next big thing with the NHS looking at using the idea to cut the pressure on Doc's surgeries etc .. the idea being that you tell Alexa the symptoms of the ailment and she'll give you an answer for a remedy .. I can see a lot going wrong with that idea if my mate Dave's old man gets ill .. He talks to his quite forthright anyway " Oi Alex ( he don't even call it Alexa ) what's the ******g time " .. so God help him if he ever has a heart attack and has to ask her for help ..

Not that I've ever seen one, but I'd imagine if it's self-learning, Alexa might respond: "Call the doctor yerself with yer own phone, you miserable old git."

Nah he'd just start arguing with it .. He actually thinks there is someone in there I'm sure ..

They are seen as a way of easing the pressure on a lot of services and if the NHS Project works expect to see them a lot more ..

To prevent misuse with the intend to tarnish the nations image as hub of hub for medical tourism, the addresses and phone numbers will only be available after interview with your local 'Blockwart' at his home office.

Great idea destined to failure, from the start, it seems. The devil will be in the details, which always scuttles Thai bureaucracy.

if you opt for a good public hospital with a clinic, such as Suandok has.....

I not only have no complaints about charges but am almost delirious, as a former Los Angeleno even with employer paid Kaiser Permanente coverage, with not only how inexpensive it is here, yeah scans are full charge but what the heck..... but the quality of medical services is excellent.

but if I think of a few experiences with some of the fancy "Baw Maw Jaw" listed private hospitals...... forgetaboutit.  and not just the charges but the services are 'different'.  too professional for me, do you understand that comment at all?  and the doctors at places like Suandok, when they are not the exact same doctors, are better experienced at places like what's the official name?  Maha Raht Hospital near or of CMU.  excellent.

I would start with the Director of the Hospital where you had treatment,

Have found them sympathetic & with this "control" coming would think a bit more.

Nevertheless, Caveat  Mentor as one quoted price was 3.500,000 result actual 1.200,000

at another Hospital
