Hey everyone,

I am about to apply for a visit visa for my Thai wife. I was wondering do I need to translate her bank statement into English and how many months statements does she have to provide?

Finally, when we apply do I have to buy the plane ticket and pay the full-amount or is there another way I can do.

Any tips will be really helpful.

Six-months in my experience, printed by the bank in English. Most banks here have a standard form, just got one yesterday at Bangkok Bank (100 baht), where you can tick 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, and the language option for English.

The plane ticket thing is tricky as there are really no truly refundable tickets even in F/J/Y anymore. This is one area where an agent can be beneficial as they have the ability, through travel agency access, to make fully cancellable bookings. You can try a travel agent who has access to a GDS, but even they will probably charge a handling fee for cancellation.

Hotel bookings can be cancelled quite easily.

Does the UK application say that flight and hotel booking are NOT needed?

I was invovled in Schengen visas (France, and The Netherlands) only.

These required air, hotel, insurance et al. for application, AFAIK.

Schengen Visa YES, UK visitor visa NO.

And insurance for Schengen.

In most cases yes, however if the applicant is married to an EU National, or in some cases in a subsisting relationship, then flight details, accomodation, insurance and evidence of finances are not reqired.

The only caveat is that they must provide evidence that they are either travelling together or meeting each other in the Schengen Area.
Do keep in mind that some of the British Electorate made the conscious decision to give up this right, and when the UK leaves the EU, partners of UK Citizens will need to go through the full process when applying for a Schengen Visa, that's full flight tickets, accomodation for every night of their stay, insurance cover and detailed evidence of finances.

You've received answers for a Schengen visa and for a UK visa.

Do either apply to you?

It would be most helpful if you said what country your wife is applying to.
