early renewal of Thai passport

Featured Replies

Hi guys! Does someone happen to know if a Thai passport can be renewed about 8 month before it expires? Or is that only possible in case of passsport lost or similar? Cheers and thanks Stefan

I'm not sure but my wife has just gone back to see her family and one of her jobs while she is there is to change her name on her ID. I hope she can do the same on her Thai passport and hopefully get a renewal as hers runs out early next year. I will watch this thread with interest.

A Thai passport can be renewed at any time. There is no limit on the amount of remaining validity for the current one to do it.

A friend of my wife's got a new one about year after a getting her existing one.

You can't renew a Thai passport, but you can apply for a new one at anytime. You will need to take the current passport along for it be cancelled as they won't issue a new one until they have cancelled the old one.

Great and thanks, that is very good to know!

Yes it can be done, the Mrs did it last year with months to do before expiration

Can definitely be done. My wife had more than 2 years left and she easily got another one. I think the Thais are happy to do it as it gives them more income. For us, it saves a trip to the Embassy in London which I think is mandatory now if you apply in the UK.
