Chiang Rai Province’s Customs Department in Mae Sai has incinerated illegal and fake items valued at over 11 million baht.

The illegal items are goods that “do not follow the customs law of Thailand”, aka. fakes and brand copies. Most of the items were seized from the Thai-Burmese Border Gate in Mae Sai.

The illegal goods were gathered and burned at the district waste disposal centre in Mae Sai. Illegal goods continue to be a big issue fo Thai authorities. Officials say that many sellers are turning to e-commerce to sell the products. Popular illegal goods sold online include fake designer bags, fake makeup, and fake perfume. The products are often sold on Instagram, Facebook and Line.

Other items that went up in smoke include illegal supplements – diet pills, medical creams, hair dye, hair products – mobile phones, pirated goods, patent infringement products, and more. One of the most popular goods seized at the border are fake designer handbags, fake jewelry, and even fake pajamas using famous brands such as Mickey Mouse.

The total value of the bonfire was of 11,098,872 baht according to Virot Yaibuathet from the Customs Department.

I don't know, i always had a big problem believing that the custom department will really, really set alight to millions of baht of goods that they can be so easily send out the back door and sold to others, i mean can you blame anyone who doesn't think that the custom department, among other departments of this fine country, are not that honest and forthcoming?...

So the customs department set alight 11 million bahts worth of fake goods.

The other 3 million bahts worth had already been distributed amongst wives, girlfriends, mia nois.????:cheesy:

Why not burn it in a official waist/trash burning facility with the press around instead of in the open air.

We already have pollution enough in the North and government agencies should know that, its a very bad example of behavior.

So the copies sold in Sukhumvit Patpong Chaktuchak etc are made in Thailand?

Why the need for burning the stuff at all? The goods are already produced, they have been taken away from distribution and selling. Charge the producers and the sellers.

Regarding the products, I do not think that the real brands would deny them beeing given to poor people in need instead, because they would never be a part of the population that is any kind of percentage of their genuine customers. So, why not make use of it and give poor people a better standard of living, instead of polluting the air?

LAzada is a good site to hunt for fake nike underarmour etc... burn the website LOL

Surely only plebs are to be criticised for bad behaviour when it suits the camera men and media puppets. Meanwhile the factory busses continue to trundle along pumping out 1kg pollution per minute, calming traffic with the dense smoke even after the RTP make a big show about 20,000 police out today catching trucks (and getting a photo of them catching just one truck to illustrate before going back to the station for a good vape session).

Yes, a fine example of how to dispose of plastic junk (probably made in China).

It is the same the other side of the border in Tachilek, but the market is smaller. You are constantly pestered by street vendors trying to sell Viagra (fake), cheap cigarettes and packs of playing cards (officially illegal in Thailand) among other cosmetic items. However, a visit to the large "official" duty free shop by the Burmese Customs and Immigration Offices is worth a visit. Many top brand "designer" products (fake) for sale at prices cheaper than in Thailand and with the clothing much more comfortably fitting. Size "L' means exactly that! A bonus for me whilst shopping in Tachilek, is being able to have a quick flutter at one of the 5 casinos.

JUst 1-2 months ago, they were burning confiscated DRUGS out in the open.

Several paces in Thailand, officers were to witness those burnings.

All in promotion off fighting drugs.

It s incredible, or you make population high on the drugs or the chemical compounds

in it , burn to dangerous toxic gasses, which could cause you for instance cancer in a few years. It is all kind of drugs from innocent kratom to ice.

i Was flabbergasted on hearing such a thing.

Sell it, and use the cash to build a huge air cleaners, and water sprayers the reach the stratosphere~no more air pollution in the area ????
