POTY 2019 - Ideas for up and coming contest

Featured Replies

As we all know, the POTY is an annual slaughter event to find the best all round poster of the year, and over the past couple of years, there have been quite a few suggestions on how we can make it a little more interesting. This thread is for those who have constructive ideas on how we can improve on the current rules and regulations, and if you have any ideas, feel free to let us know about it.

Nudie runs around the external perimeter of the local wat grounds for those regular posters with over 1000 posts and less than equal number of rep points is my suggestion.

And if there is no photo, it didn't happen ????

This should particularly apply to anyone without a life outside the idiocy of the concept.

Well, I think if we come up with a good set of rules that are fair and transparent, which is the objective of this thread, then yes, we can all wait until the starting gun is fired.

So good luck with this !!

I will say that last years was a bit of a fiasco with half the competitors hidden in another thread !!
Not to mention any names, Scott [emoji51], but hopefully that won’t happen this year !!

Many people said that they didn’t know it was happening, so a banner on the website should cure this.

Many people claimed it dragged on a bit, I agree.

Sooo, get some guidelines in place early then forget about it , except for advertising it’s gonna take place a week or two before, then condense it into a week at the most .

Wholeheartedly agree about last year, and I will personally petition Rimmer that they do advertise the event in advance!

Allow people to change their votes as before or otherwise SNOOZE CITY.

I think a very valid point.

Gives the competitors chance to show off their worthiness, increase actual posting by the nominees but more importantly will increase dirty dealings/brown envelopes/libellous comments and a general all round tackiness.

Sort of like a presidential/general election !!

And we all know we all like those for the dirty dealings alone!!

I'll make a note of worthy suggestions and post them all at the end of this thread.

My understanding is the current forum SOFTWARE doesn't support vote changing. However, if that feature could be supported, then I would also suggest a loosening of the rules on doing OPPOSTION RESEARCH on the candidates.

What I mean by that is that normally it would not be OK to post some damaging post of a member from 5 years ago, but a POTY contest at it's most vibrant is like a real life political campaign where old dirt exposed is fair game.

That loosening is a moot point if you can't change your vote though!

Campaigning is mostly a waste of time and energy for posters and readers if there is no potential to change your vote.

Also my understanding is the current system just viewing the results blocks posting any vote at all. That should be fixed as well!

Bottom line under the current structure the POTY contest is a CASTRATED version of what it is used to be.

That said, it used to be quite insane and ugly (like many real political contests) so maybe the castrated version is what is really wanted here. Fewer casualties. Say no more.

Yes, I recall 2016 with some affection, as that was the year when anything went, and no stone was left unturned in an effort to discredit contestants. Kidnapped cats and vile accusations of animal abuse was par for the course, and as the official commentator, it was quite difficult keeping up with the shenanigans.

We could always introduce provisional votes, with every member having 3 over the course of the month, and when cast, it merely indicates, as a poll would, who is popular. Then, the final 24 hours would be when your concrete vote would be cast. Perhaps that would go some way towards keeping it interesting right up until the last day.

Just an idea .....

Another idea would be to give everyone 3 votes and you are not allowed to give one runner more than a single vote .....

  • Author

Another possibility would be to prepare a list of questions that the contestants must answer ......

Yeah the vote for more than one method is a really good way to give a fair representation. Someone who consistently gets the second or third vote but not leading because of some polarizing candidates. Is likely the most appreciated on average.

Although I imagine the software does not support it.

Contestants?  Is it now necessary to register? I thought any member could vote for any other member they chose?

Contestants as in those who have been nominated ....

All finalists need to answer the 2018 miss world questions. Being in a swim suit or evening attire when answering the questions is at the discretion of the candidate.

Do you just mean those who have received votes, i.e. that could be anyone?   There's never been a list of "nominated" members that votes are restricted to, has there?  I'm sure that a vote can be cast right up to the last minute for someone who had not, up to that point, received any.

Normally, to be in the POTY as a contestant, someone has to nominate you, at least that has been my understanding.

I'm sure that you could "go on and on...", you have so far, but why the sneering flame?

My understanding is that anyone can cast a vote for any other member, if that's not the case it can become discriminatory by not allowing votes to go to those excluded members.
