Please explain this to me...

Recommended Posts

I remember when I was sitting at the stage of a gogo bar with the manager and two young guys, well dressed, walked into the bar. And I told the manager something like: I am sure the girls will be delighted to see these guys and join them soon.

He told me: No.

And then he told me that often when guys like that walk in a bar they think they are the attraction and the girls will sit with them, talk to them and will be happy to go out with them. But that is not what happens. Because the girls work there to make money. And to make money they want to get lots of drinks and they want guys who know they have to pay money to have the company of pretty young girls. Guy who think they are hot are bad customers so many girls will ignore them.

I guess after a while most of us notice that girls don't give us a discount if we try to look "good".

I agree some guys take it to extremes. Personally I always run around in jeans and t-shirt. I won't win a mister whatever competition but I wouldn't win that anyhow whatever I would wear. It's comfortable, the girls don't care, and I don't care about anybody who would think I should run around better dressed.

I runs a small business on the island where I live and I wear shorts, T shirt and flip flops. I only shave twice a week and I shower a few times a day. Wifey of 30 years loved me until the day she died and the local Thai business men do not see me as a threat. Gold diggers stay away from me as I am not in the 'looking rich' class. I only wear long trousers and shoes when I visit a city but I still do not shave.

Life is pretty damn perfect except that I really miss wifey.

Mine just wanted the money.

I don't believe I've ever met one that wasn't a gold-digger.

My wife has 220 rai of rice paddy, 5 years ago a group of businessmen from Bangkok asked if they could buy 100 rai for 27 million Baht with the provision that farmers either side of her land would sell as well, she refused as did the other two farmers, I blew up and didn't shave for 5 days and went into depressive mode, 10 minutes ago she asked MY permission to sell 10 rai to a Thai supermarket for 800,000 Baht. She isn't a gold digger but she is lousy at maths, 10 times that would only be 8 million yet she turned down 27 million, she says I tink to much.

Loads of stories like that, but they never do sell the land.

Personally I think it's a 'tease the white boy' game.

Most Thai people think every Thai woman with a foreign guy is/was a prostitute. If there is big age difference between the guy and the woman, they are ready to bet the farm that she is a prostitute. If there is small age difference or she is older than him, maybe not ready to bet the farm, but still think she is/was a prostitute.

If talk together five minute we know if prostitute or not.

But if not talk, don’t know, and assume what you say. Because many farang marry the sex worker.

For Thai people, we think “why farang marry with sex worker, she don’t love him sure. Ok, go with sex worker, up to him. But why marry.?”

Crazy

So I don't believe when you say 'Thai people look down on this kind of Thai-farang couple, but respect everyone else.' Many things you say about Thai people I think reflect how Thais would like to see themselves, but doesn't mean in real life that's true. You are talking to people on this forum who have lived in Thailand a long time, not first-time tourists to Thailand who accept everything they hear from concierge at hotel.

So why many farang marry sex worker?

@Yinn I think you should mind your own business and let people lead the life they want to lead. You sound very judgmental to me. Many people marry for less than perfect reasons. Are you the Thai goddess of love and marriage? Your heart is so pure, huh? I don't think so.

You work at reception desk at hotel or something like that, right? Front desk reception's job is to decide who gets into the hotel. I think you get confused and think front desk reception clerk's job is to decide who gets into heaven too. That's Jesus' job, not Yinn's, OK?

Edit: And by the way, you can't tell every time after talking to someone for 5 minutes whether a girl ever worked as a prostitute before. Maybe she just start, maybe she is part-time prostitute, only works every now and then. And how about the Thai woman who never worked in a bar, but only pretends she likes a guy because she thinks he has money and will give her a nice life. Is she a prostitute too? Is her heart pure? Many people think that a woman like that is just as bad as a bar girl, maybe worse, because not honest. If you start judging everybody, where do you stop?

Obvious. One time the farang say “we met when she work 7/11.”

He lie, but the woman admit it in the bar. She know is stupid. We don’t believe. She don’t want to lie.

you right, maybe not every time. Most time sure. Easy for Thai to see.

No.

Prostitute mean she sex work and any customer can go there and she go sex for money. Anyone. Maybe hundred customer every month.

Different. I don’t think girl pretends going to do that. That one not “sopennee”

But she not the sex worker.

Is different.

i think I know why you defended that though.

“Unfortunately a lot of the men who seem to post on this web site are the kind of people you wrote about. They are old men with young girlfriends they buy. It is a bit sad and I usually pick this up from the subtle way they say things in english.

There are too many people  in Thailand who come from my country and think everyone here is bought and sold. It makes me sad. I have had a wonderful experience since I started doing business in Thailand. I have met some very good friends who I will still be friends with until the day I die.

I like reading about your perspective on non-Thai people. Thank you for sharing it.

Really doesn't have anything to do with what I said in my post. I certainly don't think "everyone here is bought and sold."

P.S. I wonder why that poster sent you a private message instead of defending you so everyone could see how they felt. Are they ashamed of how they feel? I wonder if the person who sent you the msg has ever been to a prostitute. I wonder if they were being hypocritical when they wrote what they did. Maybe that's why they didn't want anyone to know.

I knew it! A new TVF poet of the 21st century.

Then I see older white dudes with the same predicament I’m in, but somehow don’t seem to be conscious of their affliction. My wife calls it the ‘old farang syndrome’. You know the look… in their 60’s onward, white knee socks over varicosy chicken legs, sandals, safari shorts, Hawaiian shirt that doesn’t quite cover the pot-belly. Oh, and the hat as if they are going on jungle trek. 3 days stubble of course. And typically, a younger Thai wife in tow. (did I mention the flip-up sunglasses?)

What she calls "farang syndrome" is nothing else than a bitter "marriage syndrome" which often starts with verbal abuse then erupts in physical abuse.

Is it possible that your wife and you are making fun of some short legged beer bellied party bouncer on one day after payday?

I personally like the Safari shorts that weren't washed for three weeks that they're already shimmering. And when the chicken legs are stuffed into some Army boots, it's even more fun to look at.

A decent muscle shirt that lets the belly free movement in all directions is a must have for all of them.

A wifebeater is also a great shirt for such a sex- monster on three Viagras who even kept Somchai's wife busy and exhausted, who'd done the job since she was twelve. She walks a bit funny now.

Could you please explain the Flip Up sunglasses, some wise expat- posters here might want to see and buy them?

They are dark lenses you clip on to your regular spec to make them into sun glasses. When you leave direct sunlight you can either remove them or just flip them up.

What 'over the top' personal comments are you talking about? Alluding to the fact that she works in a hotel? I didn't tell her she should stop posting on TVF, I told her she should stop sticking her nose in other people's sex lives in real life.

I find her posts very judgmental and critical of older foreign men while at the same time attempting to present Thai people in a dishonestly favorable and idealized light. I'm not even defending the sex industry. What I'm calling out is this current day hypocritical and moralistic finger pointing by some Thais about the sex industry, when they know full well that for decades, while the country was benefitting economically, it willfully and collectively turned a blind eye to this social problem.

Blind spot.  90% prostitution is for Thai men.  I know 20 prostitutes well and/or family members all but 1 marry Thai man.  Most of prostitutes who work in Farang bar have Thai husband or boyfriend.  I think it is difficult for Thai people to talk about this.  Most Thai men have first sexual experience with prostitute and many with ladyboy.  Difficult for you to talk about.  I don't understand why.

I prefer the words 'rented' or 'hired' or 'employed'

If they can quit, you haven't bought them, and you don't own them.

Some people who have to work for a living actually like their jobs, some don't.

PS. I've met many Thai men who paid for their wife (Sinsot), then pay a monthly wage, nothing unusual about it.

I don't agree with you on many things but I do on this one.  Established in 1700 there was a was a sex law that governed relationships between prostitutes and foreign sailors.  Anyone studying the kingdom of Ayutthaya would be aware of this.   From there to Khlong Toy and Bangkok in the 50's and 60's and 70's and then to Pattaya with the Euro people in the 80's.  All of the women in these operations started out working in Brothels for Thai men.

Hey.... I LOVE wearing my sandals.  But with bare feet.  I DON'T wear socks with my sandals.

... long thin zip-off cargo pants of a breezy quick drying material...   un-tucked long sleeved summer weight material quick drying shirt with the sleeves rolled up.... wide brim hat to protect me from the sun.

My day-bag with a bottle of water.    That's me.....

Yep... I'm "old".  I've had a quadruple CABG bypass done... I'll be 68 in November....I guess I could drop dead any day.  I live each day as if it's my last.    One day... it will be.

But women still seem to like me...  and I DON'T spend a lot of money on them.

You'll usually find me in a side street restaurant... or getting some thing quick to eat from a street food vendor... and quite often at a Buddhist temple.

When I start to play I think “good idea for foreigner to learn and help each other”. But many people just want to argue together and complain, criticize, mock and ridicule Thais. And Indian, Russian, Chinese, Muslim etc.

i just say it look stupid the older foreign men act like teenager with sex worker at the hotel, restaurant, the street. Thai people think that.

Big difference.
