August 1, 20196 yr Music is the only reason, the rest is rubbish, second rate, does not work, frustrating, inefficient or just plain dangerous. Women would be the very last reason to stay.
August 1, 20196 yr Popular Post My own reason for being here is best summed up thus A miserable git will in all probability be a miserable git wherever he decides to live. Similarly , a happy go lucky kind of person can be content almost anywhere. I'm content to be here but I could be just as content somewhere else . But the wife is here and she cares for her mother so we are here because we are here.

August 1, 20196 yr Popular Post Thailand is a good place to be and spend all your time on Thai Visa because you are too scared to go outside because all the negative comments here and negative stories about how you are going to die or be tortured by immigration. all you really need is a very small room, air conditioning and someone to deliver food to you. thank you.

I would go as far to say that going out is the best way to escape all the negative comments, as they are not found in the real world, only, it seems, on here.
August 1, 20196 yr yes sort of the reverse of the Matrix. Plug in and everything is horrible. Pull the connector out of the back of your head and things are great.
August 1, 20196 yr Popular Post I was pondering on this, I got to thinking that mostly it feels like I am in a different country to many I encounter here on this forum. In my day to day life I never encounter any issues, problem or concerns. I am never aware of pressure to have or do this or that. I never encounter any form of "officialdom" other than the annual Visa which takes around 30 minutes and that's it !. I never encounter Police, angry Thais, poor service or many of the other gripes I read about. The locals are pleasant always greet with a smile. Yes it's a minor inconvenience when it rains and the power may go off for an hour or you loose internet briefly, but hardly the crisis some make out and very small negative greatly out weighed by the positives. I am not denying there are issues and problems and corruption etc, but that's in every society. I just don't encounter it personally. Life is very peaceful, uneventful in many ways, and I love it here !! Don’t miss the latest headlines from Thailand and around the world. Get the Asean Now Briefing newsletter, delivered daily. Concur. I go back to the UK for 3-4 weeks every 15 months (ish) to see my ageing poorly Mum. The Nanny State protruding into everything in the West is staggering. I really have to watch myself and pay extra attention when borrowing a car. Speed bumps, 20 mph zones, prosecuted for doing 35 in a 30. Market town centres dying. Instead of bakers, butchers and grocers or an ironmongers (hardware shop - remember them?), it's all charity and betting shops. Oh and vape and S/H shops. A slow death. No free parking. Drab grey dreary. I get back here after that, and the explosion in colour and life is staggering.

August 1, 20196 yr Popular Post I studied horticulture in school. Being able to grow a wide variety of plants year round is very exciting. My wife and most thai girl I met before her are easier to live than all girls I met in the west. Family value. I come from a broken family and living conflict free with my extended Thai family give me much joy. Life is cheap and my wife don't spend much. I keep pilling up savings only from my investment. Low VAT and no income tax on my previous year profit help to save even more. As a life long traveller there is a lot of nice place to visit from a short plane trip. I come from a very cold country so the weather here is awesome. If I miss snow and mountaineering I can go to the Himalayas easily. Also my nickname since I'm a teenager is "Tay" which is kind of funny.

August 1, 20196 yr Popular Post Thailand is the first place I felt at home. From the first months on I felt I would likely want to live here until my dying days. The climate, the people, the language, food, the fruit, nature and now my wife and baby all great reasons for me to stay.
August 1, 20196 yr Author Popular Post I forgot to mention the great infrastructure, the roads are top-notch and are indeed better than in some developed countries, plus there are rail and coach services that go everywhere.
August 1, 20196 yr Popular Post Cost of drinking water here compared to elsewhere. I paid $6 for a small bottle of water at Cairns airport! Cost for the company of a lady. I paid $450+ for one at Cairns airport!
August 1, 20196 yr Indeed, my lovely Wife and two girls are the only reason I stay here. I feel quite uncomfortable with the climate here, and miss many things from my "Alpine Europe", but I feel I can make some sacrifices for my love ones.
August 1, 20196 yr Popular Post I concur with your reasons for staying the positives always out way the Negatives I as probably most on here remain upbeat about the future
