Immigration has announced the arrest of two Algerian men who were targeting tourists on the BTS train network in Bangkok.

In custody and awaiting deportation are two men named by immigration chief Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang as Omar and Mohammed, 55.

Omar was identified on CCTV by a US tourist called Kevin in June. The tourist had been travelling on a BTS train when he noticed attention from a man behind him and a woman in front.

It was not until after he changed trains that he realized his wallet had been stolen.

The man responsible was spotted by a guard on July 24th and arrested.

The inquiry led to the arrest of an accomplice called Mohammed who was caught on overstay in Hua Mark, Ramkhamhaeng. He had stolen items on the BTS system back in 2016.

A press conference also heard that two property owners had been fined 800 baht each for not reporting a foreigner staying at their address within 24 hours - an contravention of Article 38.

Can two people comprise a gang?

A good point.

Federal definition. The federal definition of gang as used by the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is:

An association of three or more individuals;

Quite right, my mistake. I forgot the English rules of grammar don't apply in Thailand.

edit: What was that recently publicised photo: "Thailand Very Safe".

Perhaps they deliberately missed out out 'is', in case some wit changed it to 'was'.

Easy-peasy, a battered old wallet half hanging out the back pocket of his shorts?

Yeah, you are right, this would be such a convenient way to prove that all French are thieves, isn't? :1zgarz5:

Yes, you'd think that the money could be better spent rushing to the scene.

Well from the OP it seems that a woman could be involved too.

Actually you might say that there’s thieves amongst all statuses of life. The higher the status, the whiter the color, and the more legal it gets. ????

Why, if there were only two culprits why is the infographic board so large?  It would cost more in materials and time to make it than the arrest and court procedure would involve.  Just curious.

Probably similar to the Thai newspapers, readily available in your country of origin.

Why do they always have to produce these elborate and possibly expensive poster boards just for a photo op.  What's the point.

Did Omar and Mohammed inform immigration that they would be working at BTS?
