Video: Drunk big biker mows down policeman at checkpoint - faces eight charges

Let's lay out the map so to speak:

  1. You have a checkpoint.
  2. You have motorcycle on the left side of the road.
  3. You have police all around.
  4. Drunk ahole on a motorbike runs down policeman.
  5. Not one cop gets on a motorbike to apprehend the drunk?

Not one?  In America the cop would have commandeered the truck to chase him down.  They seriously wait for a roadblock ahead when one alert cop could have knocked him off the bike?

Amazing Thailand

In Malaysia, there was a case of the police using a sub machine gun to mow down the rider after he elide and flee the checkpoint. The reason: avoiding justice and maybe even armed and dangerous.

this set the precedent for bikers not to run away upon asking to stop at roadblocks.

The VDO shows the bike wobbling and swerving just prior to, and at the moment of impact.   The rider clearly did not have full control.   Attempted murder without an admission?  No way!

Next time the cop mans a check point at any time, but especially at night, he might consider wearing a hi-vis reflective vest.

500 baht isn't difficult

"They were dangerous driving, injuring a policeman, drunk driving, refusing to stop for an officer, fleeing the scene of an accident, having no licence, having no plates and having no Thai ID in his possession."

I guess that will be not enough.

Re; 5.

He was on a 650, most police are on 150 or less, they weren't going to catch him that way.  They had guns though, I'm surprised that mowing down a policeman didn't get him shot - and justifiably too IMO.

Mmm, denied bail suggests he's not related to anyone important or with money, so a good chance of having the book thrown at him, justifiably be the looks of it. Shame it doesn't happen to the connected...

He was denied bail and ordered held by the court on eight charges.

Hey this could be the start of something big, all the police getting out and about and enforcing the law ????

Speedy recovery to the officer, one of the few doing his job.

Looking at the video he actually swerved towards the officer... I'd add premeditated GBH if not atempted murder!

very common outcome down over the Border... My earliest recall was another RAAFie on his Norton (superbikes of the pre-80s) He was travelloing sooo quickly, that he'd past thru before being able to react quickly enough to give any impression he was even trying to slow down... (that was the 1981 case)

soon after that, an old Chinese couple in a Merc on the old highway Nth of Butterworth...same outcome.

Now if the BIB were armed as well as the Malays!!!  (who even had the use of F1 submachineguns back then)

At least, being Thai, in addition to the eight charges, he'll not have to worry about filing a TM.30 when he returns home from jail...

Off topic but, more importantly, a pathetic response.

it would be very difficult to prove his intention was to kill the officer unless of course he made that intention very clear beforehand

not the same as pointing a gun at someone and pulling the trigger

Vehicular manslaughter if the officer dies.  Assault with a deadly weapon if he lives.  His intent is shown by him doing a hit and run, which should be another charge....

Probably late for his van/coach driving job

He was charged with...

. Not having enough $$$ to discourage further investigation

. Not owning his own plane

. Not being the grandson of someone rich and influential

. Not having an important business meeting in Singapore

Times, they are not changing...

Let's hope he doesn't have the money to buy his way out of it. Time that really heavy sentences start getting dished out to people who drive around pissed out of their minds. Should slap him with an attempted murder charge too.

Sadly IMHO he cannot be charged with attempted murder as that requires forethought and deliberately targeting a specific person.

However attempted manslaughter would get the little barn steward.

attempted manslaughter

Is there even such a thing as attempted manslaughter?  Seems like an oxymoron.
