Sanook reported that a Thai man had his footwear sucked into the bowels of a moving walkway after arriving at Don Mueang airport.

He said it was lucky he was wearing a certain kind of shoes - he was able to slip one off easily and avoid serious injury.

He was wearing Crocs.

"Jump Dhanapat" had arrived back in Thailand with his family from a trip to Osaka just before 4 am on July 30th.

Everything seemed normal until his shoe got sucked in though he was able to release his foot.

An engineer found it in the workings of the machine - it was all ripped up.

He said that the airport contacted him with an apology a week later but since then it has all gone quiet.

He warned people about escalators not wearing Crocs.

Yeah... much better and safer to wear the free disposable Japanese-style slippers from the hotel.

Having a quick look at the heading,I feared the worse for this

guy, thinking his appendage had been trapped in the walkway.

Who wrote that headline? They should go work at the NYPost lol

It's that maintenance thing again!

No sympathy. If people are dumb enough to travel on moving machinery in flip-flops and the subject dreadful plastic <deleted>, they take the risk. Probably rides a motor cycle in flip-flops and with no helmet.

The photo seems to show a broken yellow guard on the escalator. The guard is designed to prevent this very problem, but it depends on being well maintained, enough said.

I don't appreciate being called dumb.. You're an extremely critical individual. I'd be willing to bet that there are more "slip ons" being worn in most tropial airports than full cover shoes. There is no logical reason to not wear them. This is simply a failure of the airport for failing to maintain the equipment and the indiviual was not the least in fault, except for maybe failing to pay attention to the world around hin.

Indeed - one yellow guard has completely snapped off and others have quite a few teeth missing.

Where are the "no win - no fee" injury lawyers when you need them ? ? ?

You gotta remember what country you've returned to and start taking precautions as soon as you exit the aircraft door !

You are quite a nice fellow ,If he had normal laced up shoes on he maybe would have lost a few toes or maybe a foot.  ????

Not a maintenance thing, just disgusting footwear

In one way or the other all of us been sucked into something.

There is a safety switch behind a combplate that stops machine immediately when an obstacle applies some force to comb.

Bad maintenance

Is there any such thing as a  "no-win no-fee" lawyer in LOS? I  thought they were all "no-pay no-win" and "he who pays most, wins".

You don't have to like the footwear. I don't like the maintenance.

This is common knowledge about that type of shoe being sucked into escalators. Personally I have never owned a pair, but my kids like them.

Its a cross that some of us hung like horse have to think about when stepping on to such devices.  and where have my glasses gone again????

In your parallel   reality ?????

When I ride on the Automatic Walkway I usually step up before I get to the end.
