August 29, 20196 yr in Bangkok i extend 2 months ago, last year 2018 , my DL was about to finish on 9 dec 2018, but i went there first week of october and extend it same day @ Bang chak

To answer the Op if you can wait until just after the expiry date - you may find you get an extra year. IIRC they are not keen to renew in advance here IN Phuket but I eagerly await other answers from around the country. ????

DLT is not as chaotic as Immigration. There are variations about what proof of residence is accepted and whether you need two originals or original plus copy is sufficient. But for the rest the procedures are quite consistent.
