It is all about priorities, I am 71, my desiderata are different now than 20/10 years ago.

I know people who are staying in a 4000 ThB room, only eating Thai street Thai, but go drinking, and paying Lady Drinks daily.

Are they living on the cheap?

Hello no, during my single life in TH I would not have a reason to pay more for the room (except I did for fun sometimes).
The thai food was mostly from street stalls but also some farang / fastfood drunk.

Did go to party every day until exhausted and then take a break for 2-3 days + continue. Was spending 80-110k a month / 3k or more on party days.
Basically like 0-1.5K for the girl, 1-1.5K for the drinks and food (depending paid or unpaid girls), somedays also easily 10K.

But today, I guess it is around 1,650-2,000B per day average which includes everything (with wife and baby),
could easily do with 1,250B per day, guess even less if we would own a house or condo in CNX.

eah, 'cos it don't make sense.

As I said it : We don't understand.

Several times my Thai wife tell me :  " You not understand, you are convinced that your way is the only right way "

Well I leave it like that than, no way she can convince me, no way I can convince her, especially if all around people are acting the same way.

I suppose we can say that, in our opinion and with our view of things, they are all wrong.

I won't vote because I'm across the border in Laos.

But to comment, if you're talking about daily expenses (food etc) that excludes monthly rent, then my daily spend for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks is under 200 baht a day, (I know because I've monitored it since moving to Luang Prabang 3 weeks ago).

there is medication that would fix your desiderata

desideratum

noun
plural noun: desiderata
  1. something that is needed or wanted.

    But this is maybe English humor.

    My (Flemish) humor is also only explicit and funny for the Flemish.

I said I didn't want you to quote me anymore due to us having totally polarizing views, that it would not end well and would likely result in a ban for either one of us.

It's called taking the moral high ground.

Ever heard of it?

I wont complete surveys anymore because they often seem to come back and bite me.  Not long ago there was a similar survey re how much do you live on and a short time later re do you have health insurance.  Before long we had the government talking about compulsory health insurance for expats and the same site organising the survey making money running adverts selling health insurance for expats.  Coincidence maybe?

If you're talking about just the spending when you're out then on an average week day hardly anything.

Today I spent 140b whilst at work and usually spend under 1000b during the weekdays.

Coffee = 40b

Travel = 100b

Lunch = free

the last time I talked about my money on TV someone called me a bloody Yank.

Whatever that means.

You should stick to talking about the weather and showing those fascinating charts!!

Seriously, I do appreciate the effort in posting them.

At the danger of being branded a brown nose, I do enjoy your posts, so carry on old boy!!

Are we talking about average, peak, minimum?

On a weekday I spend less than 1k on fuel, food, tolls. On a weekend all bets are off if Madam "needs" to go shopping.

That sounds da_n familiar!!! I hate shopping with her.

OP, with every new Avatar, you come up with such super topics. I spend 150,000 kip an hour when I go have a beer.

Have we reached triple digits yet as far as some form of "cost of living in Thailand" threads go? The cheap Charlies will play up their spending, and the guys who basically live in bars and spend like weekend millionaires will play their output down, so I predict the results will once again be meaningless and misleading.

I see the 3rd highest answer is 50,000+, so I don't think everyone is being "genuine" in their voting. Can't blame them for taking the pi**, though, when sooooooo many of these threads have been done. Perhaps it's something that should be pinned and people can append to it when they see prices increase. That way, we could have a searchable thread to see how much products and services increase over the years. I recall there was a(nother) thread recently talking about the price of cigarettes and their history of price increases. (I believe they were around 30 baht for a pack of Marlies when when I arrived the end of 1999.)

Did those people spending less than Baht 5,000 a day take into account accommodation, transportation, health costs, insurance, etc.?

I keep a record of my annual pension and investment income, as well as how much money I have in banks in Thailand and overseas - on my calculations I spend just under Baht 25,000 per day to live in Thailand.
