A bridge over a klong in the area of the Phetch Dam in the Thai Yang area of Phetchaburi collapsed about 1 am this morning.

Daily News reported that officials were quickly on the scene and there were no deaths or injuries.

The bridge was a crossing over Klong Sai 3.

An investigation is underway.

Close.... no foundation !

looks like it was sitting on good old red dirt with no concrete or steel support and the dirt just collapsed under it, when most of the money allocated to build roads and bridges is pocketed through graft/corruption what can you expect. On the way home today they were laying a new road surface straight over red dirt, they didnt even level it properly or fill the holes. The original road was only laid 2 years ago and was being replaced, mostly due to the fact they do not use the correct materials(road base) as its cheaper to use red dirt so they can pocket more profits, it how it is done in Thailand unfortunately, money is allocated  to allow to do it properly but by using poor material and quality they can pocket most of it

Not sure about  "pocket more profits", but the contractor who 'won' the bid, have to compensate his losses when he handed over the brown envelope.
