Scotland's four time world champion John Higgins outlasted three time champ Mark Willams of Wales in the semi-finals of the World Six Red Snooker Championship in Bangkok on Friday afternoon.

In a battle of the heavyweights at the popular annual tournament it was the tenacious Scot who prevailed by seven frames to five after a two and three quarter hour encounter at the BCC Hall at Central Plaza, Lat Prao.

A cagy and mistake ridden start saw the players share the first two frames before Higgins pulled away to lead 6-3.

Williams clawed back two frames as the tension mounted but was unable to take the match to a deciding frame.

In the final Higgins will play compatriot Stephen Maguire who defeated England's Gary Wilson 7-5 in the Friday evening session.

Saturday's final begins at 2.30 pm and admission is 300 baht.

The winner will receive 4 million baht with the runner-up earning 1,300,000 baht.

The match will be preceded at 11 am by an exhibition match between Thai favorite Ratchapol Pu-Ob-Om or "Tong" who will play seven time world 15 red snooker champion Stephen Hendry of Scotland.
