Scotland's Stephen Maguire won the final of the Six Red World Championship in Bangkok on Saturday.

Maguire triumphed 8-6 over compatriot John Higgins in front of a packed BCC Hall at Central Plaza, Lat Prao in northern Bangkok.

An entertaining encounter saw Maguire take an early lead but he was pegged back by the tenacious Higgins who despite a fluke was unable to take the match to a decider.

Maguire won 4 million baht and Higgins took 1.3 million back to Wishaw. It was Maguire's second win in the event after taking the title in 2014.

It has been announced that the event is likely to be upgraded to a snooker world ranking competition next year.

Earlier seven time world champion Stephen Hendry also of Scotland played an exhibition match against old adversary and Thai favorite James Wattana or "Tong".

The Thai prevailed 3-2.

The sporting and vocal Thai crowd gave Hendry a standing reception before the match.
