  • Why is this good news? The TM 30 is still in place and the TM 6 was no inconvenience whatsoever.

  • Well, the TM6 wasn't really an issue at all (albeit the waste of paper) as many countries require you to fill in an arrival card.    The TM30 is the nuisance, and I have absolutely no optimi

To be frank - it was. I'm travelling out and back to  Thailand on a weekly basis (at least) and the form couldn't be completed on a computer and subsequently printed out.

Nice to see that this form disappears decades of that "customs declaration form" at Don Meuang,  which was collected after baggage collection by two customs officers chatting with each other; the forms just to be thrown into a huge cardboard box which originally contained a washing machine and never looked at!

I think Thailand is the only country that makes unnecessary work for itself. The countries l visit  , Malaysia, Singapore,  Indonesia don't require a visa or any forms to be filled out or photographs . Hand over your Passport stamp 30 day stay and a thank you from the IO and your on your way. I don't go to countries that require  a full page visa at whatever it costs . I don't  go to Cambodia , 30 US Dollar and at many entries 100 Baht good service tip. Not on .

So,Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia are different from Thailand? In what way? A tourist visa is something you apply for, otherwise you normally get 30 days visa exempt. That's what you get here also. You haven't travel a lot if you have only visited 4 countries in Southeast Asia, but still think you know how it works in other countries.

Good news! I lost my TM6.

Great news, but the new app will only work on Netscape Navigator 1.5 and below.

Not as  much as a TM30 Tm47 Tm6 bonifre would though, especially if the "Guy"  was  head  of  immigration.

Only Brits  will understand this last part.

fawke off! I am Irish and I get it.

Happened to me once

This is crazy!

TM^-for 15 years this was only used as a final defence to prove the date you entered the Kingdom as it was tamped along side your passport and stapled inside.

TM30/47-

Answer this... Landlords Wives Hotels are the units being fined for not reporting this, possibly gained... Income??

How many Landlords have Computers? Wives? Hotels... yes in some form maybe... The Law states who is responsible to fill and file less then 1% are the actual Xpat/Long-stay individual who is being checked...

So Online TM30's still ain't gonna be filed any more then in the past...

Same-O Same-O

Must hve been quite a few Long-stayers being rounded up and because they had proof of entry, had to be released... what happened? Immigration got side tracked watching the Skirts and forgot to stamp Passport? or was it a Ploy?

Go figure.....

Leave Thailand.

This is 2019 and if you can’t handle basic IT you shouldn’t be here.

????

So imminently anybody with a  valid  passport can walk in with no detail of where they are going staying etc, but when i get back to my home in Issan we have to go and say "he is home"

Then I'm surprised that you can survive this year and age. Just take a walk to your local IO and do it the old-fashioned way. What else can you do?

Happened to me once as I stepped away from the counter I checked Passport … No entry stamp!! I had to argue with him to check my Passport finally Senior Officer stepped up and offered to help Seems like something failed or was it just loss of facs… I did have an Immigration group stop at our house 2 months later and ask to see my Passport and Date of enty to the Kingdom.... 1st and only time I have ever had a visit in 15 years...

I am going to keep my TM7 attached with ticket stub and have Officer … ask pleasantly ask that he stamp both rhen I will ask to use his stapler... Smile... (for Gods sake don't forget to smile) as you leave

If that "anybody" is an ordinary tourist, yes.

good idea for  the app  but take this into account one foreign condo tenant's will not be  bothered  to tell the property landlords when they go way  for  a weekend, so you  will be  fining  landlords who don't know  there  tenants  have gone  for a weekend or  a month  or what ever ? Please explain this ,also  some  Thai condo owners  wont  rent to  non Thais  because  of  this flawed system , because  they cant be  bothered  and  don't want to be  fined  because  they don't  or didn't know the tenant went some  where ,how  the hell, could they .Also owners of condos that  rent  them out  have agents , who don't tell them its a foreigner renting there condo. so this whole system is flawed. you make laws with no ideas on the backlash this will cause .Not only from visitors ,of teachers who come to work here , and  don't want this bs , and  business people who want to invest here ,who also hate this  system. that treats every one like  a  criminal . To live here ,we  provide a government police clearance , to show we Australian expats are good  guys  , we wouldn't get  that if we  weren't, I have been here  over 10 years nothing has changed . have had one  speeding ticket because  I didn't see the  sign , not committed one  offence of any kind  , yet this  tm30 has  caused me headache , to go  report I am home after a four day break , was a 3  hour round  trip not happy.

Some people never had the need for any computer... and their home landline worked just fine!...

Saying someone is  basically stupid for not spending money on these innate objects ?? I believe I would be very interested in much more... like how this individual saved money etc....

Isn’t it a bit cynical to ascribe profit motives to everything done in Thailand?  Greed and corruption aren’t unique to Thailand either.

I got a national ID card and paid less than it cost to make it.

It costs about €3000 to get a drivers license in the Netherlands including the mandatory drivers school training. It the US it’s $50-100+ just for the fee  Here I paid €17.

So some friend or relative of a politician makes a few grand writing an app, same thing happens in every country I’ve lived.

The quote 'you get what you pay for' seemingly applies here given the respective road traffic accident statistics. The Netherlands example you quoted is a valuable investment in saving lives that Thailand (life is cheap) doesn’t share.

You must be a remain voter....putting words in people’s mouth and misquoted.

I don’t know the poster concerned so I cannot comment on whether he is stupid or not. Indeed, I made no such comment.

He didn't have to spend and travel to report

Comedy central here on tv. But the whole world is going stupid. So what can you do. I guess just take it as its dished out. Or move on.

Shouldn't be where? Thailand 4.0? If he shouldn't be in a country still using outdated ideas and software, where on god's green earth should he be?

I envy people who take little interest in modern technology and choose to live the more simple life. I think they have it right.

Then again, there are many Thai landlords with farang guests, and they use the online system without complaining. You can always find lazy people. But now when a farang rents a condo in his name he can register online as the possessor just by submitting 2 documents.

"But now the TM6 form is to be scrapped altogether as the Immigration Bureau is running out of places to store all the paperwork"

So the reason they are scrapping it is not because they don't need it... but because the warehouse is full. Hehe.

Currently all the TM6 forms are stored in two huge warehouses but are seldom looked at after they have are used, so the decision has been taken to make it redundant.

Thanks for info, I've often been wondering what happens to all the paper collecting bu the Thai authorities...

If they have warehouses with TM6 cards, then ask yourself where do every immigration office keep the documents for every extension? I had 13-14 copies the last time, and that was just one time.

Nigh impossible in the modern world not to use services in the internet, it has become a basic necessity unless you live in a tree in remote Alaska. Makes life easier - provided it works which it rarely does in Thailand, thanks to the contracts being given to preferred cousins & co and subcontracted to the cheapest available somchai ghettohacker known to the world.

Cannot wait to download the App on my phone so location can be tracked 24hrs day.

Cannot understand why everyone may not want that!

Why not scrap the TM 30 and keep the TM 6. According to the article the TM 6 is rarely looked at once its stored in a warehouse. So why keep it if its never looked at ??????

Microfiche is outdated, you scan in the tm 6 and keep it electronically. Keep the paper copies for 3 years before destroying them. No storage problem. But I think they are not telling the full story. When I did my visa extension a few weeks ago the lady opened an app on her phone and then checked my tm 6 number against what was on her screen. So just maybe they are more advanced than what some may think.

I’m surprised they don’t transfer all of the old tm 6’s to microfiche, problem solved.
