There is no entry/departure card in Myanmar.  Done away with it earlier this year along with the customs declaration form.

As is usual the use of "TM" adds to confusion. TM's are the names of the paper forms used to comply with immigration act sections 37 and 38, specifically:

 

TM30 = Section 38

TM6/28/47 = Section 37

 

They can add any form numbers they desire. Would be better if the relevant immigration act clauses were used instead.

 

Anyway, why not scrap section 38? Needs a law change, that's why.

 

The really ominous thing here is .. if they don't do TM6s to satisfy Section 37 upon arrival, will they start enforcing it with TM28s ????

A lot of countries around the world don't use arrival/departure cards. When scanning the passport at the airport they know who you are and when you arrived. Same when you leave.

The TM6 number is connected to the TM30 and to the 90 days report.

That's one of the reasons the TM30 has to be submitted when coming back from abroad. You have a new TM6 number. But if you check the TM30 report app, the TM6 number is gone. So the info about scrapping the TM6 entirely seems to be true. But in every TM form at Immigration, the TM6 number has to be filled in.

That would mean that every TM form has to be edited in a near future.

I know the TVF brethren keep saying how important they are to the Thai economy... but really,they are not.  If they were immigration would be falling over themselves to get rid of all the TM forms. I predict that within 10 years the only people granted a long term visa/ extension of stay will be people married to a Thai national, or the existing requirements of money will change with the end result only seriously wealthy people would be considered. Simply having a pension would not be anywhere sufficient. 

Thailand simply does not need elderly single men. No country does. 

Please understand that Thailand is NOT Canada or Australia that have active permanent migrant policies which makes sense with the small population base.

This is more or less what I suggested quite a while ago, not sure I posted it on here but I've written several emails about it.

 

It would be nice if they scrapped keeping tabs on people altogether but it was clear at the FCC meeting that they were never going to do that.

 

Having the landlord responsible for reporting your whereabouts was always going to be problematic - if they insist on some form of reporting, it seems to me that its far better done by yourself.

 

What I suggested though was one app, with a drop down menu where you could select which type of report you were filing - TM30, 90 Day.....whatever.  One thing I think will still remain a problem is that they will still want the address registering - we'll have to wait and see on that.  If all you had to do was open the app and state where you are staying when you stay elsewhere without registering the address it would make things far easier - perhaps your permanent address could be registered but if you stay at a friends one night, you simply state that you are staying there temporarily.

 

Anyway, so much for their claims that most Thai hotels register guests.  I stayed at a fairly large hotel up in Surin recently and I asked them if they were registering me when I checked in "oh no sir, sorry", I offered them my TM6 card but they gave it back - complete load of tosh.

 

After watching the video about Pakistani forgers on another thread, you can sort of see what's got them worried but as has been said by many, very few foreign criminals are going to be stupid enough to register where they are staying.

A little bait and switch game! Calm the foreigners down by eliminating the TM 6 and continue to push for enforcement of  the TM 30 but with a better easier reporting method to make it less painful. (Don't hold your breath) I often wondered where the IO's keep all that mountain of paperwork they have you reproduce year after year, but can't seem to verify anything previously on their lousy computer system that they all ready have that information readily available and don't need another copy. I don't know the size of these warehouses, but Thais are paper fanatics, store everything "just in case". Maybe what they should focus on his getting out of using Windows 98 system and get with Windows 10 at the minimum, then perhaps things would run smoother and less paper reproduction for storage. Use multi-Terabyte hardware to store at a central location. Just my two cents worth!!!

No landlord has register for you if the rental contract is in your name.

You register as the possessor and the only uploads are a copy of your passports info page and the first page in the contract.

When Japanese tourists routinely lose theirs it's just a shrug and a new card. Processed without an ill word spoken.

Maybe it's because I'd worked in IT for 15 years and know exactly what some third world police app with zero accountability can get up to on a phone.

 

I also don't use stupid banking apps. I prefer to keep my life simple. Phone goes missing I won't lose a minutes sleep.

 

I do the 90 day online via PC. I have a number of extensions which block all the nonsense. More than half dozen anti malware, virus cleaners.

The problem is the TM30 is stupid. It’s a stupid idea that makes the people wanting to continue it look stupid.
