Be aware that the first person you encounter, ie the girl at the application counter, has only one desire, and that is to prevent you from going to Australia ! I tried to get a tourist visa for a girlfriend to go to Australia, and finally had to demand to see her superior, who proved to be highly intelligent, very reasonable, and the visa was immediately given ????

That must've been a long time ago.

Most applications are done online these days and you never get to speak to anyone.

My Thai wife is a Australian Permanent Resident for 13 months. Fill out the paperwork get the documents and police checks done and pay. When she got PR she could work and get a Medicare Card. My brothers Thai partner applied for PR when she was in Australia on a tourist visa and is still waiting for PR but is able to work and has a Medicare Card but has to get a Resident Return Visa to go to Thailand for a holiday. She is still waiting for PR 2 years after applying. It can be done and not too difficult just takes time.

Don't think she would be eligible for a RRV as she's not a permanent resident.

More likely was given a bridging visa B visa.

Hello all & Kenny

I'm an Oz Citz & am also at the moment thinking of bringing Wife & Son to Auss (son does not have Oz Citz & is 11 yrs old ) - Need this so he can get into school (shortist route from within Thai )

I would have to work on sons Auss citz ( $300 & appr 3-5 mths )

My wife will have to do alot of paper shuffeling as I am going to attempt this online in Auss

I am planning to bring the wife out on a 1 yr Visiting family Visa (she has been out to Auss 3 times prior)

This is for a 1 yr trial & see what happens since I don't get back to often now

You have to learn to live of $1000 in the hand for a week ( 40 hr working wk )

Did you do the paperwork yourself or use an agent? Just asking as I’ve heard pros and cons for using one.

Taking a Thai girl to any country........99% end in disaster.

They NEED their family, friends, food.

Absolutely wrong.  It is like 90%????.  Except for Filipinas, who seem to do really well.  Their parents are problematic.

Damn nearly 8k !  I wonder how many men are stuck unable to meet the 800k and can't pay the spouse visa. An agent to stay here is the best answer

Rubbish the 8k is a one of payment for the visa which is about 160.000 baht

and no need to have 800.000 in the bank ones you get here

Think you're misread that.

Think madmen was saying some in Thailand can't afford the 800 000 Baht in the bank

to stay and are unable to pay the $8000 for the Oz visa.

The paperwork is not that hard, it's just time extensive.

And you still have to do most of it anyway.

Having said that, if you're no good at paperwork, they can be a godsend.

I don't know what they charge, but I've heard some are charging 20 000 Baht for a simple tourist visa.

Maybe because there are so many married to Australian men that they can form a local community, bit like being back home. Mate of mine’s married to a Filipina, and they’re forever having dinners and parties with her Filipina relatives and friends with their Australian husbands.

You should consider the enormity of this move for your TGF.she will be isolated from her family and friends, Some 7 years ago I took my TGF to Australia on tourist visa which was extended for a further 3 months. In short, We were in Melbourne during the first half of the year Summer ( 30-42 C) and autumn (30-22 C),we attended a couple of "Thai temples" that were full of Indian and Sri lankans, nobody spoke Thai. she was also unhappy about not being able to buy Thai vegetables and the high price of everything ,she hated the "cold" weather and was happy to be back with family and friends in Thailand.

Hear you 100%. Done a similar thing with my first girl here 5 years ago, just couldn't settle as most can't. Turned out there were more sinister reasons which I didn't know at the time but am aware of all the pitfalls...missing their food, family, friends...even a Thai voice. Some take to it like a fish to water but would say 90% wouldn't. Probably would collate with the reality that 90% come to Australia were probably met in bars and these relationships wont work in Australia or Thailand. Mate went through a horrible ordeal with his. Started off ok until she got in with the wrong crowd, other ex bar girls all ended up the Casino every day and god knows what else. It depends on the person. I guess most of us have gotten on the front foot here living in Thailand and learnt where to source things, special foods....you adapt. I bent over backwards to make mine feel at home, track down everything she needed re food, temples, Thai TV...even communities and friends but at the end of the day if they wont get off their A$$ and make some effort themselves it's doomed. Problem is they think going to a foreign country is like going to Disneyland and as they have no imagination generally it is very hard to get them to look at the reality of it all before making a decision. Same with most of these relationships....The girl had no skin in the game and nothing to lose and everything "up to her".  Most of them don't even like living in a western style house let alone a western country. So they promise you the world and they end up giving you an atlas. Spend a fortune getting them back home, visas etc. The girl I have now is dare I say it "different" lol. She is educated and no history in the bars. Her mum and dad are both dead...no other very close relatives or friends for that matter. She is pretty adaptable. I would say she would more than likely fit in. Very long shot though, only weighing things up currently.

Mate, there is only one guy in Pattaya, who is fully certified and registered as an immigration agent for the Aussie government. His name is Anthony from Offshore Migration Agents Australia. Aussie immigration know him very well. My wife and I were granted a direct 100 visa (full resident) after 3 months. That's brilliant. It pays to do it with him. You can contact him on line ID SnowCrystal or email at www.offshoremigration.com.au Highly recommend his services as NO visa agent not registered with MARN can do partner ones successfully. Especially in 3 months from Woe to Go. He's also handy for Aussie StatDecs.

I did the spouse visa 6 years ago. Everything was done online but she still had to go to VSF in Bangkok for the biosecurity for her visa. She was required to supply a medical check plus a Thai police clearance and even thou her 16 year old daughter was not going to Australia with us we were required to supply a medical and police check for he also. Something that no one has mentioned yet is that she will require a letter of invitation from you to come to Australia plus a sponsor that will be responsible for her financial needs until such time as she will be allowed to work and actually finds work and by looking at what you have listed in the way of your finances you would not be approved as her sponsor. I had to supply my tax records as proof of my income to show that I could support my wife. From the time of application to the time of approval was only 10 months for us and in that time I took her to Australia on Tourist visas. You can apply for tourist visas with the different length of time, 3 months/6 months/9 months and 12 months but for the first one it does not matter what you apply for you will only get a 3 month visa. Unless things have changed she must be in the country where ever she makes the application for the decision to be made. If she applies in Thailand then she must be in Thailand for the decision but if you take he to Australia on a tourist visa and do the application in Australia then she must be in Australia for the decision, she will be given a bridging visa which is valid until the decision on her application is made.

Mate, just getting a tourist visa is a pain in the <deleted> for my Thai wife. Be prepared for a lengthy and expensive exercise, Oz is making it harder all the time for Asians to migrate to Oz. Good luck.

Be diligent if using an agent.

Given some of the information supplied, some of the ones advertising on here are pretty ordinary IMO.

I agree Tourist visas can be difficult But if you have been successful befere or you are married should not be that difficult we offer a discount should a tourist viss applicant proceed to a marriage visa.  Yes You should only use a registered Migration Agent,  Check they have a MARN on the Government web site. www.mara.gov.au

Mate, I have always done my own applications, the next will be number 4, however the same BS has to be admitted every time and a trip to Bangkok for BIO's, what a money scam, cost of trip to Bangkok, fees, etc. Only in Thailand BS prevails.

With this, if you do not want to get married, I would not do any of it.

And just getting a tourist Visa for a Thai girl now is very very difficult.

Why is getting a tourist visa for a Thai gf these days very difficult to get? What about if she has travelled overseas to a few different countries before therefore have stamps in her Thai passport and she's full-time employed for over a year?

They don't seem to be that much truth that they all love mixed race Western/Asians kids/people here. Or are you only referring to half Thai?

I had two houses, my business, on the gold coast, no debt at 60, looking good, paid for the nana slut and her three kids back to aus, cost about $15 K SATURDAY PUNTING MONEY

"Nana slut with 3 kids" - that's where you went wrong.....

Just sponsored the niece for a visit to Oz. She had been working in Japan and Korea many times in last ten years.

She was still rejected for a visa. The reason? Single female. May not return to Thailand.

Thai wife now permanent resident for just over a year.

Used a Melbourne visa agent. $11,000 in total. Took 11 months from application to approval. Tourist visa in the wait. Mind you in the end I contacted my local member as I thought it was taking too long,  his cabinet office sent a couple of emails and two days later. Given temporary permanent residency and full residency on same day. No two year wait. Reason they gave, supplied more than enough documentation proving relationship of several years.

Straight away she opened a business with a tax file number and was given a Medicare card. Though can’t use welfare system for some time.

On another note, I’m one of the lucky ones. She has taken to Australia like a koala to gum leaves. I guess it is because she is constantly busy but she now considers herself an Aussie girl and has no desire to return permanently to Thailand.
