  • Topic never came up. We had lived together happily for 10 years and only got married to make visa application easier.

My wife is a school teacher by trade - excellent education, owns far more land than I do, etc - I paid ZERO sinsod. She has two daughters - now living with Gran - from a pathetic Thai man she married

  • Similar(ish) to Denim's above.   After 8 years living together we decided it would make visa applications easier if we formalized our happy relationship.  She had never been married, no kids

I happily gave my parents in law 100k thb and paid for the cheap wedding which all in came to about 150k (250k total) although the original price was to come in at 125k.

I've been together with my wife ten years.

My wife has worked since the day we met.

My parents in law are hard working salt of the earth folk.

You need not pay when marrying POOR women with child/dren, divorced, out of the bar, over 33 (29 for Thai men unless previously engaged). At that point it's up to them if they want to marry you on your terms.

Women with means, high station family will expect something, some show for face even if she's Christmas cake.

The way you manage the display of wealth - and this will grind their gears is you agree on the day to provide xxx cash and they put up any additional cash, gold or whatever they want on the tray. At the end they take it all back. Easy.

It will help if they like you lol

Paying money to anyone (relatives) for the pleasure of my wife’s company is turning her into a prostitute.

Too funny ????

You're quite a simple minded fellow.

Look for the page with yellow marked on page 2, pdf  Sin-sod explained and when not applicable (read forced , but if wish spray stupid  your money ….ignore )

Sin-Sod Dowry.pdf

Follow the customs of your home country which presumably does not include sin sod or the other Thai traditions.  If she balks, tell her to marry a Thai man.
