NONG KHAI(NNT) - Nong Khai marine police have seized 466 kilograms of high-grade marijuana suspected to have been smuggled from neighboring Laos and destined for Phuket.

Nong Khai marine police, provincial police, immigration officials, Border Patrol Police Unit 245 and a Mekong Riverine Unit set up a combined task force and worked on a tip-off, to arrest the drug smuggling suspects at a village in Wat That subdistrict in the capital district. During the operation, a pickup truck without license plates emerged at high speed from the woods. The officials followed and found a dozen big black and white bags labeled in the Vietnamese language, scattered along the side of the road.

The officials lay in wait for several hours but nobody came to pick up the bags. Officers then seized the bags which contained 466 kilograms of marijuana.

The marijuana which could have been sold for 15,000-20,000 baht a kilo was worth in total about seven million baht. Police suspect it was smuggled from the neighboring country and destined for Phuket. The drug was delivered to Nong Khai provincial police for further investigation.

So this will go towards medical cannabis research/distribution, irrespective of chemicals used to grow it??

Or perhaps controlled distribution for the pension fund?

Why do we have Marine Police in Nong Khai? Marine means salt-water, of the sea, or nautical. In Nong Khai there is only the Mekong, which was freshwater the last time I was there.

Fresh water is stretching the truth a tad !

Don't give too much attention to the English translations.

In the upper row of signs (brown background) that is literally the "water police (Nong Khai)".

Nothing marine in the Thai wording.

In German there is 1:1 translation for that but don't ask me how you would call it in English.

It's police patrolling/protecting rivers/lakes/canals etc. by boat.

EDIT: just looked up and there are many "marine" units in territorial/fresh waters worldwide.

A diversion? Bigger load being smuggled elsewhere?

So what they gonna do with it? They gonna make “black gold oil” from it.Half of the jobs has been done.
