Finance Ministry imposes penalties on shops violating Chim Shop Chai campaign regulations

BANGKOK (NNT) - The government’s Chim Shop Chai - Eat Shop Spend campaign has received good feedback as people eligible for 1,000 baht electronic money grant continue to make their purchases at participating stores. Complaints have been made against some stores offering special promotions to attract customers, leading to a discussion between the Ministry of Finance and convenience stores to ensure strict compliance with the regulations and the campaign’s objectives to promote tourism and income distribution to communities.

 

Mr Chankrit Detwithak, an Assistant Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office overseeing the Ministry of Finance, has ordered the Comptroller General’s Department formally to invite executives from convenience store chains for a discussion, stressing the government’s objectives of the Chim Shop Chai - Eat Shop Spend campaign.

 

He said the government continues to receive complaints that some participating stores now offer special promotions to attract people with the 1,000 baht allowance to make purchases only at that store. The practice was discovered after spot checks, as well as the refusal to offer change by some shops.

 

Violations of the campaign’s regulations, or taking advantage of customers, will result in immediate termination the offending vendor’s participation in the campaign, and blacklisting for future campaigns. The authorities have already imposed penalties on some shops, for charging customers commission, by closing down the shop’s account on Thung Ngern app, with pending transfers cancelled. The general public can report fraud or any violation to the campaign by calling the Comptroller General’s Department hotline on 02-270-6400 ext 7.

So; it would appear to be cheating is going on in the retail sector; no surprise there then as Thai's just cannot do anything much without some form of cheating/scam/extortion involved.   No worries eh; they are of course all 'Good Buddhists' !

So does this mean whoever thought this up is now liable to be prosecuted because people cheated and stole from their project to help the economy a bit like the Rice scheme? 

I have recently seen many queues in stores claiming their 1000bt ticket, strangely enough non of them seemed to be poor people, the poor could have done with the money but would have lowered the tone of the participating shops so who were the benefactors? Answers on a wheelie bin to your nearest smiling Prime Minister.

The Big C store in Phitsanulok has been packed with people from many near by provinces spending their 1000 Baht. The car park has never been so full and pity the poor shoppers who want to get in and out in a hurry. Madness.

Poor people are probably too busy working or don't have the funds to travel to take advantage of 1000 baht. It's probably good for the middle class and the store owner.

Ones i saw on the tv seemed to be filled with government officials !
