Two brothers were killed outright when their car was hit by a train as they drove across an ungated level crossing on Friday in Trang’s Kantang district

Officers from Kantang Police Station rushed to the railway crossing on Patiew-Klongcheelom Rd. in Klongcheelom subdistrict where they found the wreckage of a bronze Toyota Vios sedan, license plate Kor Tor 8747. It had been hit side on by the locomotive of express train no.167 travelling from Bangkok. The driver and passenger were later identified as brothers Thossaporn Sitthipan, 28, and Sorawit, 25, both from Kantang. Sorawit had got married the day before.

Wiwat Amphan, who witnessed the accident, said he saw the car trying to cross the railway but the driver was unable to make it in time and was hit by the oncoming train. “The crash was so devastating that the train dragged the car wreckage along the track for about 800 meters, causing a loud screeching noise,” he said. “This crossing is very dangerous and I hope that State Railway of Thailand will install a proper barrier to prevent future accidents.”

The bodies were taken for autopsy to Kantang hospital.

Sorry but no sympathy for stupidity .

Maybe you have a touch of sympathy for the widow Mrs. Sitthipan, who had been married for about 24 hours.

The article states ungated crossing but surely there must be warning lights, were these lights operating correctly, assuming they were indeed there.

On some very small country roads there are no lights or barriers there s one about 2 km from my house you just have to look .

These roads maybe take 50 cars a day at most(if that) and now with the new southern dual track are having flyovers built at every crossing

I am between PKK and chumphon this is in Trang So no change there  i would assume

Hmm,...The driver made the choice by crossing in front of a oncoming train instead of waiting a bit and enjoy the rest of his life !?!?...Risking his life and the life of his brother, and also impacting the future of his bride,...A choice with the most heavy consequences !!! What makes people take soo great risks to win a couple of seconds ???

Sad more die. Only one winner when train hits car  I dont think i want to say anything anymore The killing will go on and the police will still be sitting in their huts playinngs cards. RIP guys. I am sorry but I only blame one group for the slaughter on the roads and i dont care if they have a thousand meetings on how to stop the killing The only solution is Make the cops do their job? Maybe they could not stopped this one but hundreds more they could of

Did it turn silver with fright when it saw it was about to be crushed by a train?

Bizarrely, the Thai use of the English word 'bronze' to denote a colour rather than the alloy does not equate to the English use of the English word 'bronze' to denote a colour. It is like using yellow to describe blue. Translators, please bear this in mind.

A totally inappropriate comment, the color of the vehicle is just a small detail!

like your comment a lot and am not surprised if that is quite true.... except for assuming the driver was in a hurry.  there are many reasons, and sometimes no reason at all, for what any of us do or don't do.

for example, some who drives very slo

Surely, a large object coming down the train track with one big light in the center and its loud horn going off must have given the driver a hint that a train was coming.

What is the point of these half barriers at the crossings??? I always see cars and motorcycles going around them.

Unfortunately eyes only go where the driver wants to go. Going straight, no need to look left or right. Going right, no need to look left. Going left, no need to look right. Negligence has its consequences.

Crossings are only dangerous when you play "Russian roulette" with an oncoming train.

On the way home from shopping tonight, within a one kilometre stretch of road, 5 motorbikes pulled out in front of me from being parked without first looking to see what was coming or indicating they were pulling out. Mirror, signal, manoeuvre not known here. I could easily kill a dozen a week without really trying.

I always assume my car is a magnet and all other road users are iron ….. it does seem many Thais are oblivious to the dangers of their driving habits.

That crossing is NOT dangerous.  The drivers that don't stop, lower their windows, turn down the blasting radio and listen are dangerous drivers.
